How many boots do you need?

I guess if we were talking about real necessity the need would be for one or two pairs of boots. But as many of us like to wear different boots with different outfits and as weather might require one boot over another, today I am sharing the boots in my closet. I have not included booties. I do not own any OTK boots and the only new pair this year is the black riding boots from Target. The others are at least a couple years old. I do love that boots usually stay in my closet for quite a while.

Black riding boots

These are the boots that I typically wear with my skirts and dresses. I really prefer boots that do not have a heel as they are easier to walk in and fit my life style. These are my only new pair of boots this year.  I did not have black boots for 2 years ago having ruined my last pair using my feet to stear my sled in our backyard (which is why I bought a pair of sorel boots and a pair of hunter boots that year both on sale). These are the Universal Thread  pair from Target. I love the traction on them, the buckle and the comfort. Target carries another pair of cheaper black riding boots that I did not find as comfortable.

Of course, I wear these boots with jeans as well or other denim colors.

I am hoping that with care, these will last several years. They are not high end boots so I am sure they will get show some wear and tear eventually but so far so good.

Grey boots

These are my second favorite pair of boots. Again a low heel and I love the fuzzy interior of these. They are very cozy on colder days. They are at least 5 years old and are Bjorndal. I remember getting them with a $10 off coupon at Rack Room shoes and them still being around $50 or $60. This Bjondal Sebastian pair is similar in looks without the coziness.

Seeing that ouftit with the poncho makes me want to repeat the exact same outfit! Pairing down my closet and keeping only items I truly love and wear makes me feel so good. While I am not shopping this month after that denim jacket I bought on the 2nd, I did buy a number of things in November and so this past week, I did another walk through of my closet and drawers and donated a few grocery bags of clothes and purses.

Cognac boots

While these are more caramel than cognac in color, I think having a pair of cognac boots is a great addition to one’s closet. These actually need to be replaced as they have spots on them from hot cocoa being spilled on them a couple years ago. There are also a couple spots that are bare. I think they are suede.

The boots are wedges which are still comfortable and trendy. I will be looking to replace them in January or February hopefully when boots start going on sale.

This is one of the better angles of the boots where the spots are not as visible.

Brown boots

I actually do not wear these boots very often so they too are quite a few years old and holding up well. I buy most of my boots in size 7 nowadays and these are size 6.5. They still fit comfortably but between the lack of extra space and the small heel, I do not wear them as much. I will make a point though to style them more often this winter because I do like their look.

The last two pairs of boots I own are my red Hunter boots and my sorel boots.

Boots for the weather

So depending on where you live you may one of these types of boots,  you may want one of both of the following types of boots. While we do not get snow often in the south, we occasionnally see snow. Two years ago, we had two nice snowstorms by Georgia standards. My sons and I are hoping that we will get snow once again this year since we didn’t see any last winter.

The only pair of boots not portrayed in an outfit are my Sorel boots since I have not had the opportunity to wear with our mild weather so far. I only wear them if it is really really cold (20 or less) or if there is snow. They were a great buy on sale!

We do get lots of rain on occasion, so earlier in the fall I was pulling my rainboots once or twice a week!

As a reminder, if you have feet size 7 or smaller, don’t forget to shop the children’s department when looking at more expensive shoewear. I did that with my Hunter boots and my Keens sandals.

So I guess I would say that you should have between 5 or 6 pairs of boots in you closet (not counting booties). Anything more is just icing on the cake!
