Apple Picking and Inspired by Aquamarina Style

What a fun Saturday outing! It had been a several years since we had been apple picking and since the weather was perfectly overcast with a high of 72, I suggested going up to Ellijay, GA to go apple picking and have a picnic. We originally thought of visiting a new to us orchard (BJ Reece) however when we go there, we saw that it was incredibly crowded with their large parking lot full and traffic backing up some on the road. So we made the quick decision to go 3-4 miles down the road to R&A Orchard where we had been several times.

Since I had planned to copy Darlene’s outfit with the same camo jacket for my Monday post, I decided to wear that outfit for the day. It is comfortable, the jacket was handy to warm up my 9 year old for a bit and I was able to carry it around it in my bagn we didn’t need it. Darlene’s blog is called Aquamarina Style and she has great style! I love the variety in her outfits and her sunny disposition! I think that if you need business casual outfit inspiration that she would be a great blogger to follow.

Camo Utility Jacket With a Twist

Since I had bought the exact same jacket during the NSale and I had the rest of the items in my closet, it was very easy to recreate the outfit. It is definitely not one of my budget friendly outfits but I am getting my cost per wear down for each item as I love to wear my wedge sneakers during the fall and spring and these Wit and Wisdom jeans are my favorites therefore worn very often (I actually wore out my other pair). I know I will reach for this camo jacket a lot this fall. I definitely would not pay the full $99 price for this jacket but at the then 40% sale price, I think it was worth its price. It is comfortable, trendy and quite fun with the detachable hood.

I was a little sticker shocked when we arrived at the orchard and we had to pay to ride the tractor to where we would pick the apples but after making calls to the surrounding orchards, I realized this was a common practice and this would still be a budget friendly outing for a couple hours of outdoor fun. We paid our $5 per person ticket and chose 2 bags to pick apples: we bought a peck and a half peck. I knew the boys would want to pick lots of apples and there were about 6 varieties to choose from.

There were varieties we had never heard of  as well as the well know ones: Mutsu, granny smiths, red delicious, Rome beauty, golden delicious… The boys really had a good time and enjoyed trying to find the biggest, the smallest or the prettiest apples. The views were really pretty as we could see the mountains and we chose to walk down the lanes so nobody was around.

I was very glad we had brought a picnic and we ate before picking our apples. There were a number of picnic tables where you paid for your bag to fill with apples. Of course, a person could order food and buy apples and other fruits and veggies from the R & A country store too.

We really enjoy all of these outdoors activities! They feel nice and normal in these strange times even if I have those twilight zone moments as when we rode up to the part of the orchard we would be picking and looked around at all of the masked people. My boys now find it normal to done their masks when they enter stores or are in close proximity to people. Btw, the necklace I am wearing above is handmade by another fellow blogger Michelle from My Bijou Life Online from her Etsy shop. So pretty!

I may have to share a post with the ideas and recipes I will be using with these apples: a peck and a half is really a lot of apples!

I have found it really important and healthy for us to live as normally as we can. This is the type of activities we would usually do in the fall. The reason we haven’t in the past couple of years was that the boys were in soccer but I chose not to enroll them this fall. It sure give us some free time not to have the sports activities. I always find it hard to take the boys to practice twice a week for a couple hours with a toddler in tow. I can’t say I am complaining from the break!

I was really tempted to pick up a couple of white or green pumpkins as I feel like they are really cool looking but we ended up pickomg a little orange pumpkin (a request from the 6 year old), some apple cider donuts and some taffy from the country store. We all considered our outing a success and everyone enjoyed themselves.
