Little Black Dress 3 Ways

One of the things I would like to focus this year is sharing ways to wear one item. It may be an item that was an investment piece, a thrifted item, a statement item or a classic piece like a little black dress. I have this dress in black and purple and I will share a couple ways at the end of this post with the purple dress to show you that a classic timeless dress does not have to be a neutral to be versatile. My sister in law handed down both of these dresses to me last year and I had forgotten how well they fit and how cute they look until I decided to wear them to church this winter.

Dressy Look for Church

I just realized that I only wear these dresses in the winter when I end up covering up the pretty bell sleeves with a layer! I need to remedy that and wear them in the fall and spring too! I love the elbow length so the statement sleeve does not get in the way of things. This is the outfit I wore on Nativity (January 7th) and since I did not have a red scarf (my mom gave me hers later that week), I chose my leopard scarf to pair with it.

From there, I added my Laney boots from Target (I am so glad I got these, they are now out of stock) and an old sherpa collared cardigan also from Target. I really like the different tan tones with the black. We took these pictures when it was right around 34 degrees and I changed layers and shoes outside: it was really cold! I am always surprised how wind and humidity in the air can make the same temperature feel so different. My son had to remind me to unclench my fists!

Casual Look

When it is warm enough, I really want to wear this look in real life. I like the casual vibe with the wedge booties and the sweater. This sweater (which I have in tan too) has been one of my favorite sweaters from Amazon. It is really comfortable, one size fits all and is flattering with jeans, leggings, skirts and dresses!

The infinity scarf is still a favorite of mine (even though some say they are not on trend anymore) because of how easy it is to wear and this one found at a yard sale several years ago has been one I reach for often. I love the colors in it!

Date Night Look

Haven’t been on a date night in quite a while! Apart from trying not to eat indoors at restaurant, we just haven’t had the time and energy to go out in the evening. Thankfully, day dates are still possible and sometimes all we need is a lunch out, a furniture shopping outing or a walk to reconnect. I threw on my green leather jacket (handed me down at the same time as the dresses from my sister in law) and my heeled booties (which you cannot see much because of the layer of leaves). Haven’t worn this pendant necklace much lately but I like how it is a little dressier than some of my other ones.

Purple can be Versatile too

I wore the purple dress for church with the above scarf and boots. I also think it would look really cute with my mustard scarf and beret.
