Adventures in Thrifting: April 2021

I have been trying to go thrifting every other month, preferably with my mom to find some unique pieces and just to have fun on a budget. This past month, I picked up my mom and we hit her local consignment store and a nearby St. Vincent de Paul thrift store. We have frequented both of these stores together twice. I found a few pieces in each store and was pleased with my purchases. Today, I am sharing the ones I shared on the #thriftchicstylechallenge on Instagram.

Talbot Skirt

I actually picked up the skirt on our November thrift trip but put it away for warmer weather. I love the fun whale print and the skirt fits me perfectly. I enjoyed the print mixing with the leopard sandals and even the strap from my purse. This 3/4 sleeve navy jacket has been on repeat all spring. It is nice not to have to turn up the sleeves!

Crown and Ivy Dress

This Crown and Ivy halter dress was a fun find! I saw this dress and another similar colorful one hanging in the window on mannequins and had the sales lady take them down so I could try them. This one was a size medium and fit me better than the colorful one which was a size large. I thought it would be a fun one for date night, pictures on the beach or a summer party.

I styled it with colorful accessories (I really love these fun earrings my mom gave me last year) and thought it would be fun to pull out this silver cuff we bought when we lived in Mexico (wow, that is about 25 years old!).

By the way, buying these Polywood chairs has been a worthwhile investment! Polywood is a durable plastic that is heavy duty and will last for years. Our plastic cheap ones kept breaking and blowing over in the wind. I just ordered the 3 rd set of 2 so that we will have 6 around our fireplace. The boys love them and so do we. Investing in our outdoor furniture has been a priority this year and we love to eat outdoors as often as we can as well as make fires on the weekend. We did get a discount on one of the set as there were scratches on one of them.

Skirt and Dolman Sleeve Top

Love, love the colors in this skirt and top! I bought these at two different stores and they work so well together. The skirt has an elastic band and I will be styling it next week in two different creative ways  (well one creative, one normal) next week for the Ageless Style link up.

I added a thrifted white denim jacket in the morning as it was cold. I think we are finally over our cold weather snaps and hopefully won’t see any more 30 and 40 degrees temperatures in the morning anymore. I am not sure how much longer my turquoise sandals will last but I will wear them until they come completely apart. Such a nice punch of color.

A bientôt!

I love all cute skirts and the white summer dress you found, and they look great on you! I can’t wait to see how you style them yet again. I like how looking girly is coming back in style again!!! How sweet that you can go thrifting with your momma too, when my mom was still alive and before the Dementia took over we too had so much fun looking for fun clothes to wear.
    Hugs, Debbie

Yes, my mom reads my blog too which I think it is really cool. We both do like clothes! You are right about looking girly is making a comeback. I have been seeing lots of dresses and skirts on blogs and Instagram.

Thanks, Suzy! I definitely have gotten a little pickier when thrifting: I am trying to find stuff that is different for what I have!

So many great finds! I especially love the white eyelet dress and the fun colorful jewelry you paired it with. I didn’t know you lived in Mexico. I would love to read a post about all the interesting places you have lived. Also, when did you get this cool watercolor painting of you for your site logo? Very cute!!!

    Miles of smiles,

There is actually a post or two I wrote about living there and France! My best friend did it! A post about her this Friday!

Oh, you did so well on your thrifting expediton, Mireille! I love the skirts, especially the Talbots one – that’s a whale print? How awesome. I always take a second look at Talbots when I’m thrifting as the quality of their clothes is always high.

The dress is really pretty on you too – love that Mexican cuff, that’s some “homegrown” vintage right there!

    • mimifce

Yes, I should have taken a close up of the print! I really should wear that cuff more. I have kept it all of these years but really haven’t worn it.

Thes are such cute outfits, what great thrift finds! I really like the turqouise top and skirt together in the last outfit! I’ll need to try my new white denim jacket with my turqouise tops! (The boys got me a denim jacket for mother’s day as I pointed it out to hubby!)

Hope you are having a good weekend 🙂 Thank you for joining the #WeekdayWearLinkUp!

Mireille, first of all, I love that you did an adventures in thrifting post! That makes my thrifty heart so happy! Second, what fantastic finds. The whale print skirt is so fun for summer and the little white dress is gorgeous. The accesories with your white dress are so wonderful, too. And the last outfit is super cute. I love it all! I haven’t been thrfiting in a few weeks so I might go tomorrow!

I am really wanting to be careful with shopping the rest of the year (says me once again) so hopefully shopping my closet is going to be my middle name for the next months. These though were pretty fun and great additions!

I need to join you in a no-shop summer! I have been shopping way too much lately and I have so many things I haven’t even worn yet, so it is time to reel it in and get a handle on my shopping addiction! I just got a birthday coupon from one of my favorite thirft shops for 25% off my entire purchase. I spent $67 and got 7 oversized mens button down shirts in a variety of wonderful colors. They are my favorite things to lounge in. And I also got a camo Lularoe tee shirt, 5 really fun dresses, a super cool vintage blouse, and a very unique maxi skirt. It was an entire load of laundry! That is 15 items for $67. Can’t really beat it! But still I must stop!

That is a pretty awesome deal, Shelbee! It’s been only 2 weeks but I think my frame of mind is in the right place to keep at it.
