New Orleans: A Stroll in the French Quarter

We visited the French quarter twice on our vacation, once taking the trolley down from the garden district and a second time parking several blocks away from the touristy area. It was hot but we enjoyed the architecture and the sights. While we did see some homeless population, there were a lot less people on the streets than I expected. We did a quick walk down Bourbon Street (my least favorite as it is of no interest to me with all the bars and smells) but mainly we enjoyed the picturesque buildings in the French Quarter.

The trolley ride was enjoyable as all of the windows were down and you go down St. Charles Street to downtown. The boys requested this mode of transportation and really enjoyed the ride.

What I enjoy about some of the houses in the French quarter is the balconies with all of the greenery growing on them. We stepped into a locally owned used bookstore and found several books to take home.

We noticed that here and in the garden district the outside lights were made to look like old time lamposts mimicking candles in them.

I love towns with history, my favorites in the South being Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA/ These and New Orleans has some beautiful homes, squares and majestic trees. I also enjoy being being able to walk to a store or bakery as it reminds me of France.

Of course we had to stop by the Saint Louis Cathedral as it is imposing and beautiful. This time we took the time to go indoors and it being a week day, it was less busy than the last time we visited.

More green spaces! This square is pretty: I love the palm trees! As I mentioned it wasn’t crowded so we were able to enjoy our stroll through even though we were hot!

There were a few boutique hotels that really looked nice… Since we typically travel with children, we don’t even price these out, but some of them would be contenders for an anniversary trip.

So this is it, my last post for our New Orleans trip! Hope you decided to visit and these posts have given you some ideas for what you can do while there!

A bientôt!
