Bike Ride to Seaside on 30A, Florida

One of the reasons we have been choosing to rent on 30A on the gulf is the beautiful beaches as well as how quaint and pretty the towns are along that 17 mile stretch. Many of the pretty towns like Seaside, Rosemary and Alys Beach are way out of our budget but there are small ones like Blue Mountain where you can find less expensive rentals. One of our favorite thing to do is rent bikes and go for a bike ride. We only rented bikes for a day and while it was not the most budget friendly outing, we really enjoyed our ride.

We only rode from Blue Mountain to Seagrove and back which was probably less than 18 miles total. But the two youngest were not into a longer bike ride to we turned around at lunch time. That was our eating break! I did make sure to pack some snacks and waters and we had a couple stops along the way for pictures.

On the way back, we had promised the boys we would stop in Seaside to pick up some sticker books at Sundog books and for a treat.

If you have watched the movie The Truman Show with Jim Carrey (1998). Many of the scenes were shot in Seaside as it looks idyllic and is the perfect setting for the movie. So this year, we took the time to find the house from which Truman comes out every morning and we watched the movie when we got back to our condo.

The owners of the house even left the house number 36 from the movie on their house.

We then had some chocolate dipped treats from Nigel’s Bananas and they were very tasty if a little too big and sweet: definitely a sharable snack. Mine was the cheesecake on a stick dipped in chocolate and oreos.

I really like the area behind the main square because it is quieter and very pretty. We usually spend more time back here but the children were tired.

It was a great bike ride and am hoping we can go further next time. One year we rented the bikes for 6 days which allowed for a lot of exploration. We had hoped to do a trail in one of the state parks but couldn’t figure out which side of the road the trail was. I am glad we skipped it as we would have had a very exhausted 8 year old!

A bientôt!
