Zoo Atlanta
What a nice way to spend time with friends! Last week, one of my friends invited the boys and I to join her and her daughters at the Atlanta Zoo. I have had a yearly membership off and on over the years. As the zoo has made improvements the family membership has increased in price from around $99 to now $139 (2 adults and 4 children ages 3-17). Distance and busy schedules does not make it worth our while anymore to be members but thankfully my friend had just renewed her membership so we were able to accompany her for free on this outing.
The weather turned out perfect for our outing: it was overcast but it never did rain and the weather was cooler by a few degrees. We arrived right at opening time and learned that the new Savanna plain exhibits will be open to the public in just a couple of weeks on August 8. Since the animals were getting acclimated to their new surroundings we were unable to see the elephants, giraffes, rhinos, ostriches, zebras… but we still had plenty to see.
The flamingos are the first exhibit you see as you come in and it was so fun to see my youngest’s reaction to the animals. He is finally at the age where a visit to the zoo is exciting. Look at that face!
They were actually having an emergency drill in the savanna plains area (they had passed out a little note informing visitors) and my friend laughed and said that she was happy we were aware of that when we heard one of the zookeepers run towards there saying to bring the stunt guns! So we visited the zoo in the opposite direction that we usually do starting with the wild cats, pandas and moving on to the red panda, gorillas and ending with the reptile exhibit.
The reptile exhibit is always pleasant since it is air conditioned and the new building is such an improvement over the old one! We ended with a picnic before parting ways. I do need to remember to bring bug spray next time as the mosquitoes were alive and well!
The Atlanta zoo is not the best of the zoos we have visited but they are constantly improving it aesthically as well as improving habitats and occasionnally adding new exhibits. It does pack quite a few animals in the space it has being also so close to downtown Atlanta.
A bientôt!

We just went to the zoo in St Louis, Missouri this week and it was amazing. The boys said it was worth the 8 hour drive (we actually were driving further to some friends and St Louis was where our hotel was so we took advantage and visited the zoo!

I like your outfit and the zoo is always fun! We don’t go often as the one closest to us is quite far away, but my boys love animals so we try go as much as we can 🙂
