Maxi dress for church
Why is is that most of my maxi dresses are sleeveless? I do love a sleeveless maxi for wearing for everyday or on date night, but it limits them for me since in church we cover our shoulders. So I went about looking at my closet to find a couple layers I could add to one of my favorite dresses.
I like that the waist is at the natural waist because I have found that a lot of maxis have empire waist and those do not do me any favors (and make me look pregnant). The dress is about 4 years old and I have worn it for pictures at the beach, my 40th birthday party and a few more occasions. The halter top and neckline make it kind of dressy so I chose toppers that were more on the casual side.
With a white denim jacket
I probably would wear this look mostly in the spring when it is cooler but I do like how the white lightens up and makes the look more casual.
I am wearing pair of sandals from Target that I got on clearance at the end of summer last year. I need to take a good picture of them: they have a nice chunky heel and a larger strap at the top. Take my word on it: they are really cute!
With a short sleeve jacket
I typically wear this little jacket to top a dress so it made sense to try it with this dress too. I find the khaki color goes with pretty much anything. Because of the sleeve length, this would work very well for summer time at church.
I chose to wear a pair of earrings that my brother gave me for my birthday last year. I probably wear my Nickel and Suede earrings 90% of the time but I do have other earrings! Most are gifts or finds on clearance.
Now to wear this to church soon!

I so agree about maxi dresses being sleeveless. Just bought one yesterday at Target featuring fall colors and still sleeveless.
These are great jackets to wear over this beautiful dress and perfect for church! Thanks for sharing!

Thank you! This year I also started layering tees over some of my sleeveless maxis so I can wear them more!

What a beautiful maxi dress! It’s so funny I was just thinking the other week it would be easier if I had a sleeved maxi dress for winter but I couldn’t find any! Definitely need to add an extra layer when I wear any of mine and need my shoulders covered! 🙂
Hope that your week is off to a great start 🙂

I have seen some on bloggers but usually not in my price range or the waist is too high and makes me look pregnant!

A versatile dress by the looks of it. I had a short sleeved maxi once but it didn’t look right. The shape of a maxi I think is balanced by sleeveless I think. Thanks for linking to Muttonstyle Monday

That short sleeve jacket is great for extra coverage for summer! I haven’t seen anything like that! Both jackets look great over top your dress!

I had found that jacket at a store that I usually don’t frequent which is why I can remember the name, lol!

Very nice maxi dress. I agree with you about the empire waist. This make me look pregnant too. I like this look on others though. I think you style the dress nicely for church. I would use a croped cardigan. This might look good too. Thank you for sharing your look with My Red Carpet.

Hi Mirielle
Love this dress on you! The colors at the bottom are very pretty and I love the direction of the pattern. I am not a big fan of empire waist dresses either. I love it with the white jacket and the tan adds a fun new look since its cropped. Lovely
