Southeastern cowboy festival

A couple weekends ago, I realized that our local Western museum was holding a Southeastern Cowboy festival. The timing was not the best with a busy weekend full of birthday celebration and rain but I thought we could escape and enjoy it for a couple of hours. Since we arrived at the end of the day less than 2 hours before closing, the lady gave us a discount which was appreciated on our part.

What we did

There was an area set up for children with a bouncy house, a petting zoo and a bubble area. I asked about the secret bubble solution since it made awesome bubble but the lady kept her secret!

There was also a reenactment of the gunfight with Whyatt Earp at the OK corral.

Hopefully the weather will be better next year so the activities can take place outside and so we can spend more time seeing different shows and performances.

The Native American dancing

We arrived a few minutes before the Native American dancing program and it was quite an interesting experience. I have always been fascinated by their culture and learning about the early history of our country. A few years ago, my husband and I visited Cherokee, NC and visited the Ocanaluftee village and learned about some Native American traditions, tools and ways of life before settlers and we also saw some dancing. I do not remember what the dancers were wearing but on this day, I was surprised at the colorful array of clothing. It was explained how over the past decades as the Pow Wow competitions circuits have evolved, the accoutrements and the dances have evolved and become more colorful. The colors and added items to the clothings help show movement. The outfits are called regalia and as you will see in the following pictures are very colorful!

I apologize for the quality of my pictures as I was not as close as I should have been to the stage. The following picture is from the shawl dance and flute music.

The eagle dance

Now the following video is just a snippet of this young man’s performance. He is the 2019 hoop dancing world champion. Each person choose the number of hoops to use and they create different shapes and objects with the hoops during the routine. Cody Boettner (Creek) of South Daytona, Florida uses 14 in this routine and created different spheres and shapes while dancing! It was pretty amazing to watch.

What I wore

I decided to wear my new Amazon cardigan that I share a couple weeks ago and my booties that I didn’t worry about getting dirty.

It was almost too warm for the cardigan as the weather reached 70 but since it was the end of the day, it was bearable. I do like the length of the cardigan since I didn’t have anything like that in my closet. To my joy, I was able to get it on flash sale for $18! It is very soft and of nice quality for the price.

A bientôt!
