Rock Garden, Calhoun, GA
Taking advantage of free activities or outings in your area or state is a good way to enjoy family time when you are on a budget. You can hike, go to the park, enjoy free festivals or find special places to discover. A friend of mine often shares places she would like to visit in Georgia on her Facebook page. I often screenshot those places so I can refer to them when we do not know what to do. A couple weekends ago, we had about an hour of free time after church before my son soccer little shoot out competition. I remembered reading about a rock garden in Calhoun, Georgia. The rock garden started in 2007 and is located in Calhoun, GA behind the seventh day Adventist church next to a stream. This post is heavy in pictures because I had a hard time selecting them because I was in awe of the structure: cities, villages, churches and castles were so detailed! The rock garden was created by Dewittt Boyd as a “Town Game” that he played with his children and grew from there.
Bethlehem
The rock garden begins at Bethlehem. I loved the blue domes of the town. A picture is worth a thousand words so I will let the pictures speak for themselves.
Notre Dame de Paris
(2008-2010)
I had to take a picture next to the cathedral to show how large the structure is. The details were amazing as the 2 inside shots show. I told my sons I would give them some rock, cement and wire and they could create something like this for our backyard… We were just in awe and the boys loved walking through the paths to discover the castles and towers and buildings. Everywhere you turned there were little houses and towers to discover.
Castles and towers
I think I will enjoy the garden more the next time because I won’t feel like I need to take all of the pictures. I can take the time to admire and observe the details of the structures. I think it is so wonderful that this is a place that anyone can visit and is free of charge.
The Colosseum
We ended with the Coliseum which was started in 2014 and was completed in 2018. We were so impressed with this place and I would love to come back and have a picnic. The creek nearby and the fields of grass were very inviting, there were several places to sit and there are a couple of trails into the woods that we did not get to explore. Since this is on our way back from church, it will be easier to go there again!

Oh what a stunning site to visit! it must have taken so long to construct, it looks beautiful! 🙂 How nice you found time to visit!
Hope that you have a great weekend ahead of you! It will be a quiet one here, we are all a little unwell and the smoke haze means we need to stay indoors mostly!

Should be a quiet weekend here too. Sis in law is coming over to plant some bulbs and maybe we can go for a hike.
