Berry College, Rome, GA
Berry College is a private Christian College that was found in 1902 by Martha Berry. The college is located in Rome, GA and has one of the most beautiful campus I have ever seen. Visitors are allowed to visit the campus and just have to have a copy of their driver’s license ready so their information can be noted at the entrance gate. My favorite part of the campus is the buildings that look straight out of England but the woods and trails are beautiful too. The campus is comprised of 27,000 acres of land with fields and forests. I visited once with my brother and another time with my husband and the kids. This section of the campus is the Ford buildings.
Imagine studying and living on this campus! These buildings include an auditorium, several halls, a dining hall and a gymnasium.
The admission offices are also located in this part of the campus. The buildings took 3 years to be built and where named after the Fords after his death in 1947. He did not want to receive credit for the buildings during his lifetime so the buildings were first called “Martha Berry School for Girls”.
The second time we visited was a rainy day and the deer were out in droves. We also visited Frost chapel and the Old mill which are part of the mountain campus (that will have to be another post).
My brother and I had a picnic by these buildings and I hope to return next Spring since my oldest was unable to join us on either of our visits.
So here was another example of a very budget friendly (free!) adventure that you can take as a family. Are there any cool school campuses in your area? Is there any impressive architecture and building close by? While we do enjoy the laid back weekends with no outings (the past weekend we helped my sis in law plant bulbs and went for a walk), it is nice to occasionally have a destination to explore. I do need to start writing a list in one spot of the places we would like to visit within a couple hours radius of our house.
A bientôt!

This does look like a beautiful campus. I’m lucky, here on the main line we have a lot of really gorgeous campuses near by. I’m actually starting the college search with my son so we’ve been visiting a few more formally lately.

What a beautiful campus! it’s nice that they let you explore it, so many pretty buildings! My university campus has one nice old building but the rest are pretty plain! they did redo one of the blocks more modern but I’ve not been there since!
Hope that you are having a great week and have a nice weekend ahead of you 🙂

The other parts of the campus are pretty neat to explore too but very different.

We are a relatively new country, white invasion-wise, so we have relatively few cool old buildings like those shown here – although I was fortunate to attend the University of Sydney and had many lectures and tutorials in the gothic part of the uni. Such architecture is always so impressive and beautiful in its restraint and formidable elegance although I tend towards open areas like the beach and bush these days! Have a lovely weekend and thank you for sharing!

I love a little bit of both: on our trip to Europe this summer we ended up loving the Costa Brava beach the most even though we love visiting old castles and towns.
