Afternoon adventure: Etowah Indian Mounds
This is not the first time that I share an outing to the Etowah Indian Mounds. After 6 weeks of walking around our neighborhood, I decided it was time to walk at the nearby state parks. Our neighbor told me that the mounds were open and that that while the building/museum was closed, this historical site was open to the public free of charge. We have been once or twice as a family but we usually walk at the state park because it is free apart from a minimal parking free while the Indian Mounds charges admission.
So I told my boys we were going for a walk somewhere different, packed a snack and waters and we headed out. The weather was perfect right at 70 degrees. There were some people there but it wasn’t crowded and you were able to walk without really encountering people but a few times. Large paths have been mowed around the site and between the mounds (there are 3).
We climbed to the top of the tallest one without holding onto the rails. Funny how our conversations and habits/behaviors are so influenced by Covid 19!
I had all of us wear hats: we are spending so much time outdoors and I often forget about sunscreen so we are trying to be conscientious about protecting our faces from the sun.
This is such a beautiful place to walk and very peaceful (apart from my 2 year old’s tantrum in the middle of our time there). We sat by the river for a while after looking for and finding the snake someone had warned us about while we were walking.
Can you see it behind me? We actually first saw it climbing out of the wood box and at first thought it was a small snake until we saw it crawling out: pretty long snake!
One of my favorite things here are the fields of wild flowers. I took quite a few pictures of them and just enjoy their beauty.
Being able to go on walk and enjoying the outdoors has been a wonderful blessings these past couple of months. Apart from a tornado warning scare a couple weeks ago, this spring has been one of the nicest springs I can remember. The weather has been pleasant and cool, we have many sunny days and I feel like the pollen season wasn’t as long lasting as other years.
I have been grateful for this. Summer gets very hot and humid and going outdoors then is not very enjoyable unless you are in the pool. So we sure are taking advantage of the weather right now.
The day following our outing, my oldest asked to go to the state park that is about 10 minutes from our house. When your teen asks you to do something outdoors, you jump to the occasion. So we went for an easy walk there with my youngest. We had a nice time together and might share those pictures next week.
I will leave you with this little cuteness! Very proud of this little boy with his potty training and sleeping in his big boy bed. I feel that with him being the 4th child, I have done everything a little later with him and that might have been better in some ways. He is transitioning to being a big boy very well! Of course, apart from his daily tantrums: I feel like he has a lot more of those than his brothers did!
A bientĂ´t!

How nice of you to go to the park for a hike. I’m so glad the weather is cooperating, that’s such a big factor over how you enjoy things. Your little guy is darling. Haha, could have done w/o the snake!

I thought everyone would get a kick out of that snake: either you love them or hate them!

Beautiful views! I’ve just been walking my neighborhood too, but wish I could explore a little more. Our state parks and beaches are closed here in CA, so hoping one day soon! And that snake is so creepy! I would have run 🙂

I have a funny text conversation with my friend who is deadly afraid of snakes! I am glad the state parks are open because we need that outdoors time for our sanity and health and we can still keep our distances.

That is such a cute picture of your little boy between the tree!
Such a nice place to go for a walk, loving the meadow full of wildflowers! But that snake…..not sure I’d be so calm!
Hope you’re having a good weekend!

Ha ha! The snake would probably have been more afraid of us. I need to make sure we go back next week.

We knew the snake was there so it wasn’t scary. Rather see a snake than a big bug.

Sounds so fun! What a great way to switch up the routine a bit. I love your outfit too, those camo pants with your bright orange top are super cute!

Thank you! Any time I am wearing my new buys makes me feel much better about my purchases: the camo joggers were a good one. Switching up the routine is what we need right now. I am hoping to go on a couple picnics next week if it is nice and warm.

Oh also, I’m not a fan of that snake – eek! It’s so big! I like seeing snakes in the zoo but not in the wild, haha.

I just had to include him to get some reactions from everyone, lol!

Wow that snake is a bit scary but it sounds and looks like a lovely trip otherwise! 🙂 I was thinking about driving to a park that’s not too far from us that the kids like to scoot and bike around, for something different, but there was a (deadly!) brown snake that nearly struck a little girl, her mum scooped her away just in time, so we haven’t gone there yet! Probably shouldn’t be driving that far anyway I guess, we have a much less snake frequented park nearer us!
Hope that you are having a good weekend 🙂

We went back today and no snake! We did see lots of turtles and took some great blog pics!

What a beautiful place to walk, Mireille! And your boys are just the cutest! We are planning a hike today (it is 60 degrees and sunny) as it will be our last chance for probably the next two weeks. Our 10 day forecast has rain on 9 of the days. Thanks for sharing your fun family outing and linking up.

Rain is no fun! We went back today to take some blog pics. The boys always complain but then they enjoy themselves.

How beautiful! I’m sure it felt so refreshing to be able to get out and go somewhere! And wow! that snake is huge.
