Family Bike Ride!
After taking a weekend off from any outdoor adventure, we were ready for some fun this past Saturday. I took it easy for about 10 days, no walking, no biking and no running and it appears that my leg splints have disappeared. I will slowly add some running back in. Anyhow, we deciding to hit the Silver Comet Trail again and ride even further this time. Knowing my children, I made sure to pack some snacks, some water and some lunch.
After trying going in the opposite direction on the trail last time, we decided we like the original direction of going towards Atlanta because it is flatter as well as more picturesque. It goes through forests and passes some fields too.
Because the trial is so flat, even our 6 year old can ride for a long while. Our bike ride ended up being 22 miles!
We took potty breaks and eating breaks along the way so no one would run out of energy. I enjoy looking at the scenery as we ride and one of my favorite parts is when we pass little rocks cliffs on each side: it is cooler and the rock formations are pretty to look at.
The boys saw a deer jump over the trail right in front of them. That was pretty neat! Since we went further this time, we saw some new sights such as this cool bridge.
There was a small river under this bridge and houses overlook this “ravine/valley”. Pretty cool views.
I was finally able to take a picture of the mimosa tree flowers! I find these so pretty! It was actually fun to read about them: some consider them to be a weed plant because it can propagate fairly easily.
Of course, we had to make sure to stop on the way back and listen to our echos in the tunnel. There were actually 2 other small tunnels that we went through so the boys really enjoyed those too. This one was orginally a railroad tunnel. It is 800 feet long and was built in 1912. IT is called Bushy Mountain Tunnel.
Hope you enjoyed this little trail ride with me! Not all the kids were excited to go on this bike ride again but once we got going, they all love it and enjoyed it. Creating habits sometimes means listening to a little attitude!
A bientôt!

What a fun outing! So glad you and your boys got out and be one with nature. There’s nothing quite like getting fresh air and enjoying it with the ones you love, right? Btw, kudos on biking 22 miles! That’s a pretty amazing mileage. I hope your week is going well so far and happy Wednesday!

The only way we can do that long distance is because it is such a smooth and flat ride. I was impressed with the boys!

That ride was actually easy. Today’s hike on the other hand and climbing all the stairs back up from the canyon falls we visited with a baby on my back was a test of endurance but great for burning calories!

So beautiful to enjoy nature especially in times like these!

Shin splints are the worst! I’m glad it seems yours have gone away. This looks like such a nice path for bike riding, and the tunnel echoes are so fun! I used to live in Seattle and whenever my family and I drove through the long tunnels, we would see who could hold our breaths for the whole tunnel. It was tough!

That is pretty funny especially if the tunnels were really long! It is a great ride and so far so good: no pain!
