Charleston: The City

We spent our first full morning walking around Charleston. Our hotel was located in the historic district so it was about a 25 minutes walk to rainbow row. We took our time walking and taking pictures and choosing which street to walk down. We were surprised with pretty doors and garage doors along the way, alleys and flower boxes. We only explored for a few hours as everyone got thirsty and tired.

The first thing we noticed on our walk was how pretty the fire station was and we loved the little park right next to it: bushes, plants and a bell as well as a small fountain (no picture, sorry).

We turned on a street that looks particularly picturesque and were pleasantly surprised with alleys, doorways and pretty plants.

You know, when we visited the Republic of Georgia, my favorite thing to take pictures of was doors and gates. I miss traveling abroad but we sure are saving money by staying closer to home!

I have no idea what this purple plant is but it caught my eye! It reminded me of lavender.

We walked towards the bay and landed at the Charleston Waterfront Park. There were two cool fountains (one where the boys started spraying water and this one: the pineapple fountain, a sign of hospitality in the south.

Something that we love about Charleston and Savannah is the beautiful trees!

Fountains like this remind me of Rome, Italy which has the most interesting fountains I have seen.

And then this: all the beautiful homes in the historic district as well as rainbow row. Pictures galore here but I chose just a few to share.

Rainbow row is a series of 13 bright colored houses near the bay. I loved the planters and of course doors!

On our way back towards the hotel, we passed this beautiful entryway. I loved how the tiles play with the different pumpkins.

One thing we have fun guessing is how much a house would cost. We saw a couple realty storefronts with advertisements and it was fun to see pictures of the houses for sale.

There were many of these beautiful lights and many had lights that looked like flames. It gave an historic charm to the streets.

One last little alley before we go! This was actually a private alley. I will leave you with a squinty picture of me on rainbow row. Hope you enjoyed this walk through Charleston!

A bientôt!
