Spring is in the Air: Our First Hike of 2021
As soon as the weather gave us a taste of spring, I corraled the kids and we headed to our nearby state park for our first hike of the year. I was very nice and chose a short 1 mile hike that I knew would be an easy one for everyone and a way to ease in back into walking outdoors again.
Thankfully everyone enjoyed the hike! We gave our 6 and 10 year old some old cell phones to take pictures and they thought that was really fun and spent a lot of time finding things to take pictures of. I love how when we hike, we always see something different. This hike was no different: the water was really low and we saw sights we had never seen before.
All of this is usually under water! There were shells and little fresh water clams. Such a neat sight!
It’s amazing how good you feel when the sun is out and you are outdoors enjoying it. I sometimes wish for more of a change in seasons but I sure cannot complain of our weather in Georgia. The weekend of our hikes, it was in the mid fifties and the following week in the low seventies in the afternoon.
One thing that struck me is that the dirt is red clay under the lake too! We have red clay everywhere in Georgia which is not the greatest to grow things. It’s everywhere and messy too!
We spent more time here than the walking actually took but the boys had fun exploring.
Apart from the clams, we didn’t see any living creatures, we usually come accross a frog, a snake or a couple insects.
Going on a hike like this heralds in the change of seasons and gives us some things to look forward to. I would like to explore a few more state parks we haven’t visited yet in Georgia.
Even when the water is deeper, we don’t swim in this lake. The water is kind of murky and just not appealing to swim in. Maybe jumping off of a pontoon in the middle of the lake but where you can walk in, no thank you!
Have you all been hiking yet this year? Or has it been too cold?
A bientôt!

Lovely to see the boys enjoying the great outdoors and it’s so nice to see that blue, blue sky. Your temperatures at 50F (10C) are what we have at the moment in the middle of the day, it drops to near freezing at night, but 70F would be summer weather!
I love seeing the scenery you have near you – really interesting post 🙂

We are heading out hiking today; it’s supposed to be near 50 here and I can not wait! I just hope the majority of the ice and snow have melted as we have had some pretty treacherous hikes lately with the snow and ice not melting on the trails. That drained pond area looks like such a neat place to explore.

I can imagine ice and snow making it difficult. Hope you had a great time.

What a beautiful place to hike! Our weather is just starting to warm up a little but there’s still so much snow on the ground. I can’t wait until the paths are cleared on our trails!

We ended up getting no snow at all here this year which is a little unusual, we usually gets at least one little one. Maybe next year!

You are so lucky to live so close to a state park!! These are such great pictures and love all the fun things you discovered! We haven’t been hiking yet, but our weather has been improving and I can’t wait to go.

We have 3-4 hiking places within 15 minutes from the house. We haven’t done all of the trails at the state park so we will have to renew our pass.

That is so neat! The erosion around the tree roots looks like such a fun place to do some exploring!
