Oatland Island Wildlife Center

After visiting Little Tybee Island, we stopped for lunch at the Crab Shack which I recommend before heading to our next adventure: Oatland Island Wildlife Center. Our meal at the Crab Shack was definitely a splurge as we ordered the Captain Seafood Platter for 3, an appetizer and some kids meals. However that seafood platter was delicious.

We also spent some time looking that the alligators (which have been mostly born in captivity and listening to them roar)! It was pretty cool. All of the alligators were small in size.

This adventure is very budget friendly at $3 per person (we had to buy our tickets online to reserve a time) and takes you through trails. There are different enclosures with some local rescued animals such as deer, birds of prey, armadillo and more.

I always love traveling south because the vegetation is different. There are some palms, the trees have spanish moss and everything is lush.

I would not really recommend going to Tybee in the summer though: it is very busy and it is hot and humid. We enjoyed our walk here because it was mostly in the shade but it was really hot even though the temperature was not that high! The humidity makes a big difference.

We enjoyed the deer enclosure a lot not because deer are unusual (we see some quite often in our neighborhood or a the park) but because they were very friendly and came really close. I think going in cooler weather we would also have seen a few more animals.

A bientĂ´t!
