Fab 40s: Favorite Pop Star from Your Youth
The Fab 40’s is a group of five fashion bloggers from around the globe. Each month we choose a different theme and invite a guest blogger who is also in their 40’s to join us. This group’s goal is to take on style trends and show how we each interpret and incorporate them into our own lives. With four widely varied views, you are certain to find something that speaks to you each month and encourages you to continue to have fun with fashion after the age of 40.

When Suzy suggested this theme, I was at a loss for a few minutes. I grew up in France not listening to any pop music at all! But then I remembered that I did listen to some songs by Patrick Bruel and thinking how cute he was (this was the late 80s, early 90s). So I googled some images and realized how easy this would be for me to style: he wore a lot of all black looks and often times wore a black jacket. Since I do not have a black blazer or moto jacket, my friend and neighbor came to the rescue and let me try her 3 black blazers and I chose the one in the pictures.
I shopped my closet for the rest of my outfit: black zella leggings, black combat boots (my feet were hot) and a black tunic tank I bought on Amazon years ago. After adding lots of color to my closet this year, I am feeling drawn to some more neutral colors and I think I will be wearing a variation of this outfits several times this winter. I actually just picked up another tank from Target with their little 20% off sale last week as I am finding I like having a variety of black tank for different types of outfits.
We had fun taking these pictures! They are widening the roads at the entrance of our subdivision (it is actually a large stretch of road they are widening) and when I saw the large trucks on a Sunday, I decided it would make for some fun pictures. I really like the 3/4 sleeves on the blazer as it shows off bracelets and since it was not actually very cool on this day.
In the south, red clay is prevalent! Yards are mostly red clay, fields are mostly red clay, woodsy areas have lot of clay too. There used to be lots of trees along the road and we have been disappointed at the number of trees cut to widen the road. Everything behind me used to be trees.
I love taking pictures on days like this one. The sky always looks cool as you do not know whether it will storm or pass over. I actually tracked some clay in the house after this photoshoot (oops) since it had rained most of the weekend. I was grateful for all of the rocks so it was not a complete mess.
I may check the local Goodwill for a black blazer as I really like this look. Would be cute also with jeans. Since it is not something I would wear often, I definitely do not want to spend much more than a few dollars.
The above picture was found on flicker and it from a French postcard (ref 562). Patrick Bruel was born Patrick Benguigui in French Algeria in 1959. He is a songwriter, singer as well as an actor. He had an overnight success with his 2nd album, Alors regarde (1989) which became the #1 album in France.
And now, let’s see who the Fab 40s ladies admired when they were teens!
Shelbee from Shelbee on the Edge
I knew one or two would choose Madonna! Love the new Doc Martens, Shelbee and all the sheer layers!
Suzy from The Grey Brunette
I love how the jewerly really draw home the outfits for Suzy and Shelbee. An everyday look can become more and a nod to another era with the right touches!
Daenel from Living Outside the Stacks
You are going to have to check out who Daenel is copying on her post! Wow: she looks like a rockstar in this pic! Love it!

What a fun prompt! I like music from the 80’s, but I’m not sure how I would have done this one. You look wonderful in this all black styling. I really like the one of you sitting on the rocks…you pop right into place! Does that even make sense? I hope you know what I mean. It’s always sad to me to see trees torn down for the sake of progress. But, it never seems we can stop that.

It was fun taking pictures by the trucks. Thankfully I thought of it on a Sunday when there was no one around!

I think you nailed Patrick Bruel’s look. So nice of your friend to allow you to borrow her blazer. I can’t help but notice everyone has used black as a major part of your outfit. What does that say about that era?

My friend has a love of blazers so I knew I would find something that would work.
Suzy
I love that you styled an outfit based on a male pop idol, Mireille! You look fabulous and I love the setting. Patrick was quite cute back in the day too!

Yes, he looked much better young than now lol!
Shelbee on the Edge
Mireille, I love that you picked a male pop artist as your inspriation! I had contemplated using Prince as my inspiration but then I just ran out of time to get that creative. I love this look on you and I definitely think you need a black blazer now! I am like you with black tank tops. They are so versatile for layering that I like to have multiple styles and lengths as well. I was just thinking about that yesterday that I do need a few more longer black tanks. These pictures are super fun, too! This was a fun theme and everyone looks fabulous!

It’s funny how I thought this would be difficult for me but it just took me a few minutes to come up with a person and idea!

Wasn’t he? That picture I shared is what I remember from growing up. The older pics not so much lol!

Oh I bet that was such a fun shoot to throw together. I too would have struggled at first to even think of a pop star but I think you did a great job recreating the look.

It was really fun and the location was totaly last minute but really ended up being perfect and edgy.

I haven’t heard of Patrick before but I love this monochrome balck outfit on you – very rock and roll and you wear it so well! I think a black blazer would be a wonderful addition to your wardrobe. It’s so good you could borrow this one 🙂
Hope you had a great weekend 🙂 We managed to enjoy some time outdoors despite the colder than usual spring weather!

It was really fun to put this look together! I am going to keep an eye out for a black blazer next time I thrift, it’s been a while since I have been.
jodie filogomo
Do you notice all the black with all of you?? It must have been the time. How funny is that.
I definitely think you could find a great black blazer at the thrift stores!!

Yes! I realized how black was very mainstream then! Thinking about it, I remember high schoolers wearing a lot of black to back then.

It’s essential that we wear what we have. Mireille, I really like how you mixed it up with all of these clothes. My personal favorite is the one with the long vest.

That dress as a vest turned out really good which I am glad since it is giving it new life.

Such a great look on you. I love that you chose a guy and opted for all black. Seriously, total black is hard. I have two black blazers – one cropped, one boyfriend – they’re the most versatile pieces.
mimifce
It’s funny because my black tank looks kind of grey in some pictures. I did really like this all black look.

Fun post and theme! I don’t know the musician, but it looks like you had the inspiration. I love the all black on you and how nice your neighbor was to lend the blazer.. very cool with the boots.
