The Fab 40s: Borrowed from the Boys
The Fab 40’s is a group of five fashion bloggers from around the globe. Each month we choose a different theme and invite a guest blogger who is also in their 40’s to join us. This group’s goal is to take on style trends and show how we each interpret and incorporate them into our own lives. With four widely varied views, you are certain to find something that speaks to you each month and encourages you to continue to have fun with fashion after the age of 40.

For this post, I decided to borrow my husband’s denim shirt as I surprisingly do not have one. I like the thickness of it and how the back is longer than the front. The length works on me as a tunic and I liked how I could play with the oversized style.
I had thought about wearing one of my pairs of combat boot with this but I quickly realized that my cowboy boots would pair well with the shirt. My son and I finally went to the park/trail nearby to take pictures by the trees. I love these large trees and I sometimes bring the boys here for a picnic.
It’s always a challenge to take pictures when it is sunny, you do not want to have pictures that are too bright or too dark. This was a really nice spot and I was glad we were able to take some decent pictures. The sitting pictures are the only pictures that shows my gold bracelet: I really like the statement this bracelet makes and it is a fun contrast with the casual style of the outfit.
I only have two pairs of leggings that are not workout leggings. My zella high waisted black leggings and this pair of hue white leggings. I typically wear this pair in warmer months since they are capri length but they work well with boots in cooler months.
I wore these boots last in this post for a summer outfit. The lighter color makes them versatile. Cowboy boots are the one type of shoe that I probably would thrift. Real cowboy boots are expensive (as mine were) and I would not pay full price for another pair. I also do not wear them often enough to justify paying for another pair of non used ones.
Here is a little close up of my earrings. These were a gift from my husband quite a few years ago and like the bracelet make a nice statement and dress up a look.
This is probably not my most creative look but it is a look that I would wear on date or outing with my husband. I originally thought about adding a belt but I liked the length without it.
And now for the ladies!

OMG, Mireille, I have so much to say! Haha. I love this cool cowgirl chic look on you so much! And your boots are fabulous! I have purchased a few cowboy boots for full retail but I have also found some great ones in thrift shops, too! But I do wear mine quite often and it is probably the only type of shoe that I do indulge in the expensive purchases so I don’t mind paying full price. Actually, I treated myself to a new pair with our recent lottery ticket win! I will be sharing them next week.
I was also thinking your husband’s oversized denim shirt would look really cute belted. But it would shorten the length significantly. I wonder if a lace extender like the one I am wearing would work. Over the white leggings with a tiny bit of lace peeking out. I think it would be wicked cute! I love lacy details with cowgirl chic.
This was so fun and I really love how everyone interpreted the theme to suit them! I hope you have a fabulous week!

At least I did good with this pair as I have had them for a long while and still like them and they still fit. I thought about belting the shirt so I will try that next time. A lace extender is a great idea or instead of the white leggings I could do my white skinny jeans. But the lacy details would be really cute as you saide with the cowboy boots. Enjoy your week!

What a great take on this theme! The denim shirt looks fantastic paired with white jeans! I have a chambray shirt that gives a similar look, packed away now because it’s thin, but I’ll have to remember to style it in spring with my white jeans.
Thanks for the inspiration!

Mireille, this look is so me…except for the cowboy boots…which I love! I’ve always wanted a pair, but I doubt I’ll ever get any. I think that’s why I love my L’Artiste boots so much! That shirt…you should just claim it now and wear it all of the time! That bracelet is such a cool piece! I’m sure it has a story. Love this whole look!

I am definitely going to see about creating some other outfits with the shirt especially that I don’t have any denim ones (jackets yes) so it will help me with not buying one lol! The bracelet is really a cheap piece of jewelry that I pull out when I want something big and shiny.
Kathrine Eldridge
Yes to this classic denim look! I adore the cowboy boots with it. I love this theme!

Jayne
Love the jean shirt and cowboy boots! I don’t have a jean shirt either 🙂 The cowboy boots are so cute and I totalyl agree that color can work with a lot. My favorite part of your outfit is the earrings.
mimifce
Thank you, Jayne! I don’t wear the earrings to often as they are one of my heavier pairs but it is a pretty pair.

I just love stealing from the guys and this is a fabulous look Mireille. Great idea to pair capri leggings with cowboy boots!!
