Rainy Hike at Fort Mountain State Park
Well, this hike didn’t go exactly as planned! I had seen two bloggers share this state park which was on my list to visit because the views were beautiful. I looked at the weather forecast and it looked like we would miss the rain but it turned out a lot wetter and foggier than we expected! The hike that I had planned with the views was actually closed because of a downed power line so we had to take an alternate hike there. Which means, we will need to go back to see those views.
The first thing we did was pick up the pass for the day (I wanted to buy the yearly pass but they were out) and buy some rain ponchos for everyone. We all had hoodie sweatshirts and hats which was good because it felt cold! It was around 50 degrees but a rainy and cold 50 not a balmy one!
The hike we chose was fairly short and went around the lake. It was not too muddy thankfully and I think this little one is the only one who got his feet a little wet.
I feel like I have seen a lot of fog this fall! Between our morning school runs and this hike, the fog was been a regular occurence. It is pretty neat to be outdoors in different weather circumstances: sure keeps it interesting!
We then took another little hike this one taking us to a little waterfall with less flat terrain. Again we were thankful for the tree coverage and that the rain was more of a drizzle than anything.
It was pretty! This was the weekend where we started seeing more fall foliage. The leaves have been taking their time changing colors this year.
I think this might have been my favorite on the hike: the tree looks like it is growing out of the rock!
I always keep a couple layers in the car (the boys borrow them sometimes) but this time only had this little windbreaker. You can bet I added a couple more things to the car after this hike. Thankfully I had worn a long sleeve light sweatshirt with a vest so I wasn’t too cold. The ponchos did a good job keeping us warm too.
So yes, I might not have chose the best day for a hike but it was still pretty fun and we still saw some of nature’s beauty.
A bientôt!

Funny enough we just went on our first really wet and foggy hike this fall too and I ended up loving it… once I got over the being wet part (only my hair as I found I just could not hike comfortably with a hood on). We have had a lot of fog this fall too; and a lot of rain!

It’s funny, we’ve found as long as we are warm then we are good.

Rain and fog surely make some beautiful pictures though! Love these!
Our trees here in IL also took quite some time to change color this fall!

There’s some lovely photos in the post – looks a great place to hike. And the weather seems very familiar as it’s grey and misty right now! Yes, you need to keep warm when you hike!

Yes, probably looks like the UK! I love the fall as long as it is occasional.

Fog just seems to add an ethereal quality to everything, doesn’t it? I find, as long as I’m warm, I don’t mind getting too damp. The look on your little one’s face! So cute…that picture might need framing!

It looks lovely with the fog although it’s a shame it was a bit wetter than you expected! 🙂 Hopefully it wasn’t to slippy with all those leaves on the ground!
Hope that you are having a good week 🙂

That’s so impressive that you still went out in the weather Mireille. It’s really good to get out even on those days, and I love how you had the right gear for it.
