Parrot Mountain, Pigeon Forge
During our spring break in the Great Smoky Mountains, I wanted to do an activity that did not involve hiking. After briefly looking at the prices of Dollywood (that a budget friendly place for a family of 6), I looked up animal or zoo places nearby. Parrot Mountain popped up and reading about them online, I decided that our family would love it: I was not wrong!
Parrot Mountain is actually 2 min from Dollywood and a mere 30 minutes from where we stayed near Townsend, TN. It is a family owned business on 4 acres and has a variety of birds. Tickets for adults are 24.95 and 12.95 for childrend 13 and under.
There is a wide variety of birds from macaws, cuckatoos, conures, to pheasants and peacocks.
Of course, our favorite was the area where you can hold a parrot or small bird in the parrot family and we enjoyed feeding them and seeing which would perch on our shoulders.
The only one who did not like the area was my 4 year old as it was quite busy and the birds were loud! But the smiles on the other 3 boys are just amazing! I am not sharing those as I have been trying to give them privacy but believe me, their faces shone with excitement and joy at holding the birds.
The parakeet area where you feed them nectar was so much fun: as soon as you walk into their large caged area they flew onto your hands and shoulders. It helped that we came to visit soon after opening time so the birds were not tired of visitors and probably were still hungry.
We would definitely visit again if we are in the area. I will say that we shied away from the rest of Pigeon Forge except for lunch. It is a very touristic area and very busy.
The peacock put on a show for us!
I thought it was pretty neat to see the back of him as he paraded around his enclosure.
So yes, I recommend Parrot Mountain for young and old!
A bientôt!

What a beautiful place, Mireille! I would have loved feeding the nectar to the birds. I have a friend who has been adopted by a peacock. She and her husband have built Kevin a shelter and feed him. He belonged to a neighbor…I don’t remember why he ended up at my friend’s house. I agree that Pigeon Forge and Dollywood are very touristy (and Dollywood is extremely expensive).
