The Sculpture Garden In City Park, New Orleans, LA

You might have had a glimpse of the sculpture garden in Monday’s blog post: this was another of my favorite spots we visited in New Orleans. It is free (donations are appreciated) and quite a large garden with water features, sculptures and walkways. It is located in the City Park area in New Orleans which is a great spot for families with playgrounds, the botanical gardens, the museum of Art and much more.

The setting for the garden is quite beautiful. I am always taken by water features whether it is a fountain, a river, a pond or lake. Add a bridge and will sit there and enjoy the scenery! Except that it was already fairly hot at the beginning of June so we stopped in the shade!

One of my favorite bridges and pieces of artwork: the colorful swirls are beautiful and calming. We all took pictures here which reminds me that I really need to get started on catching up on our vacation pictures books. I am also 2 years behind and that is supposed to be my main summer project. I haven’t started yet!

The boys enjoyed the scavenger hunt. There was a play on words for many of them but I don’t remember which one this was. It is pretty fun to see our distorted reflections in this one.

Everyone enjoyed this short mirror maze. I really liked the variety of sculptures and art. And we were all thankful for spots of shade here and there. I definitely recommend visiting New Orleans before summer starts or after!

A few of my favorite pieces! I am always amazed at the creativity of artists. Sometimes art is beautiful and breathtaking, sometimes it’s weird and strange or it can be mixture of both.

After all of the money we spent in New Orleans (between food, admission fees and other purchases), I was grateful for a free activity. This was not a budget friendly vacation but it sure was a fun vacation!

If you look closely, there are three scultpures in this picture. There are more than 90 pieces and they occupy eleven acres. It was conceived in 2003 and doubled its size in 2019. The sculpture garden is named after Sidney and Walda Besthoff who were the visionary founders of the garden.

Do plan a visit if you are in New Orleans! I would plan a couple of hours so as not to feel rushed.

A bientĂ´t!
