Weekend at the Lake
Weekends at the lake never turn out the way I expect them too. I actually did not look at the forecast when we decided to visit our uncle at his home on the lake in Alabama and we ended up being rained out the first day. We still managed to have some fun and were able to go out on the pontoon twice. The boys favorite activity was the boat ride taking us to a small island with a swing rope they could use to jump in the lake.
I brought some books along to read so the half day it rained and thundered, I enjoyed some quiet time with my book. I love watching the water and looking at all of the improvements that have been done.
There is a fun zipline that the kids always enjoy and I typically ride once or twice.
The double dock deck is fun when it is sunny. My boys haven’t had the courage yet to jump from the top but I have seen others little and small jump from there. We do not come but once or sometimes twice a year so the boys are not use to the lake. They are much more comfortable in the ocean.
I really enjoy going out on the pontoon. I love the feel of the wind as we “speed” on the water. I think I probably would enjoy just floating on the lake but it would be a little dangerous unless I was anchored to the shore.
We visited a beautiful little Orthodox Church in Anniston where everyone was very friendly. I am sure we will visit again when we are in the area. The buildings that are being lent to the church are just beautiful!
The buildings make me think of Berry College in Rome, Georgia. Just gorgeous!
So while the weekend wasn’t exactly what I expected and the following week at home was very stressful, we did enjoy our visit. It was a fun last little trip for the summer visiting family and enjoying the outdoors. The boys took a night ride in the side by side ATV and talked about it for days. I was able to take last weeks Skirt as a Dress pictures for the blog and we enjoyed some good food too!
A bientôt!

Despite the weather it does sound like you had a fun time. Your comment about jumping off the top dock reminds me of when we had family visiting just a few weekends ago and all the kid wanted to go to the bridge to jump off and our company was like “you let your kids jump off a bridge?” They’ve been doing it since they were pre-schoolers! It’s so routine to us we don’t even think about it.

I am with your boys on swimming in a lake! Give me an ocean any day! This sounds like the almost perfect little getaway! I’m glad the weather cleared up for you.

Last time they swam there, there was a cottonmouth in the water so they are very weary!

What a lovely break for you by that lake, despite some not so nice weather, and how very brave of you to have a go on the zip wire, something I’ve never done.

The zip wire is for kids so pretty low to the ground!
