Soak Up the Little Moments: Allatoona Lake
A few weeks ago, I planned a short overnight trip south of us to visit Providence Canyon. After looking at the forecast the day before, I canceled the trip thinking it would be storming but it reality it would have been perfect. Instead of moaning and groaning about canceling our trip for no reason I decided to drive to the nearby lake and just enjoy a few moments there as it was a short drive.
I’ve been wanting to bring the boys here to picnic at this spot before the entrance to Red Top Mountain. It is a mere 10 minute drive from home and very picturesque. There are rocks to sit on and enjoy the view.
There are also rocks to throw in the lake and to climb pretending the floor is lava! This area is like a small island connected to land and very easy to access. There are a couple of hiking trails we haven’t tried near the parking lot.
We only stayed about 20 minutes but it was a great way to start the day. I love the clarity of the water with the contrast of the trees. I am thinking it might be fun to come in the fall with a book. I am looking forward to this year with all the boys in school but I know I will need to find some things to busy myself.
So while this was not the adventure I had planned on this day, it was really nice to spend some time here. We even drove with our windows down and opened the sunroof to enjoy more of the 75 degree weather (it only lasted till about 9 o’clock then started getting hot!
I need to sit down and make a list of some goals for my daily routines this fall: a mixture of cleaning, organizing, exercising, blogging and spending some time outdoors. I worry about getting bored or lazy.
This was one of my favorite views. I am thinking bringing my coffee cup here after all the kids are in school sounds like a great plan! Or coming and relaxing at sunset time for a little impromptu date with my husband!
Do you have any pretty nature spots not too far from home? I can’t believe we have lived here 4 1/2 years but this is the first time, I actually stopped at this stop.

I too have cancelled weekend trips over weather that woud have been fine! Hate when that happens!! But you found a wonderful new spot to enjoy so close to home. The views are so pretty! We too have a pretty lake here closeby with a nice nature trail around it. It’s usually too hot to enjoy in the summer and the moquitos are horrible so we usually just go in summer when they have special events but I love it in the spring and fall, especially when the trees are colorful.

You have the most gorgeous places around you! Yes, you definitely need to spend some solitary time there soaking up the serenity and reading a good book! Enjoy those first few days or even weeks with your house to yourself. There’s nothing wrong with just enjoying the silence…unless that drives you nuts!

Yes, just 20-30 minutes in a pretty place like this does make the day better.

I’m with you on daily routines! I have a phobia about being idle. This will probably be more of an issue in winter, when I won’t be gardening and outdoor walks will be less appealing. This is a beautiful spot. Thanks for sharing at #WowOnWednesday
