Red and Black for the Holidays with the Sunday Showcase Link Up
I like to dress up when I can so I decided to put two red and black outfits for the holidays that I can wear this year for Nativity/Christmas. I hope these will inspire you to create your own red and black holiday outfits! We have several church services and I also am hoping to host a Christmas dinner with my parents on the 26th. It was really interesting to put together my outfits. I had several ideas in mind but had to adjust them as my first choices of shoes didn’t work and trying to be as creative as Jodie to create a top didn’t pan out. Both outfits feature velvet which adds a dressier element to the looks.
Velvet Skirt
I am not sure how old this skirt is and the funny thing about it is that I rediscovered it when I was organizing my husband’s closet. It was in a tub of clothes he doesn’t wear.
My son and I took advantage of some free time on a Saturday to take these pictures. Our little downtown puts up a tree which is really nice for pictures.
I tucked in my sweater and added my burgundy necklace for some added bling and chose some gold earrings. I should have added the bracelets I wore in the outfit below and will for our Nativity service.
I really like how my cowboy boots look with this skirt. When I said I would wear them more this year I was serious!
While I like casual wear, isn’t it fun to celebrate in style? I think the celebration of Christ’s birth warrants putting on some finery! And yes, I may switch to something more casual after church but I think dressing up makes a day more special.
This sweater can be worn on the shoulders and also off of both shoulders which makes it very versatile. It is pretty warm but if December decides to be cold, I have a nice warm red peacoat I can wear.
Velvet Joggers
I bought these joggers on sale at Kohls for about $15 last year to wear around the holidays or on dates.
I first planned to wear a top I found in the same tub as the skirt but after trying it on, I decided I did not like it so I put it in my donation pile. I had to get back to the drawing board. I tried to be creative like my friend Jodie with a waterfall cardigan (to make it into a top) and then with this scarf but none of my ideas worked really well. I therefore went with simply draping this scarf on my shoulders.
Since I do not have a nude pair of heels, I went with my nude sandals which I think would work as long as I didn’t spend too much time outside.
I find gold accessories to be dressy so chose my jewelry accordingly. I had forgotten about giving this scarf to my mom after a couple of years so last year I asked for it back. A lot of people were at the civic center by the library for an event so for once I did not feel out of place in a dressy outfit in the middle of the day.
I might wear this for our family dinner. I really want to have a sit down dinner with my parents, put together a pretty table and enjoy a nice meal. My neighbor is going to let me borrow her Christmas china. To prepare for Nativity, my church school class is going to make Jesse trees and we will look up through the bible the events and people that led to the birth of Christ. I ordered these cool “birch” trees to hang the Jesse ornaments on and they will be able to display other things on their trees after Christmas.
Presents, Christmas trees and hot cocoa bars are all fun traditions but I want to make sure my children do not forget the true meaning of what Christmas is. We will add some reading to our daily routine and spend some family time doing crafts but also will remember whose birth we celebrate.

Those velvet joggers look very classy. I expect that they are very comfortable!

Yes, even though they have a zipper, they also have an elastic waistband at the back.

I just love that you found that skirt in a tub in your husband’s closet. Talk about a surprise.
And kudos for wearing the cowboy boots with it. It’s fabulous.
The scarf looks great draped around your shoulders. Sometimes my tricks don’t work for me either, haha.

It sure was a fun surprise. There was a time when I had it hanging and I didn’t wear it but I knew it will come out a few times this winter.

Nothing better than rediscovering a piece that’s been missing! Your skirt is so pretty! Love it styled with the boots. Both of these outfits are so chic and festive!

Thanks, Jill! One of the things about changing seasons is how things feel new but finding something I hadn’t seen in a few years is even better.

Mireille, I absoutely love both of these outfits on you! Your “redsicovered” velvet skirt is gorgoeus and your cowboy boots are so good with it! I never would have thought to pair those together but now I will!!! Beautiful photos, too, my friend. I hope your holiday season is filled with many blessings and much love, light, and laughter!

Love these swank velvet outfits for Christmas celebrating! I would never have thought to pair the velvet skirt and cowboy boots, but they look good together – the off the shoulder top has a bit of boho style that works well with the boots so they don’t look at all out of place. I have red + black on my mind this week also. I had not heard of the Jesse tree concept, so that was interesting.

I was surprised how well it worked together!

What gorgeous outfits, Mireille! I was wondering about your Sunday showcase. I don’t get emails about them! I do for other posts, though. Isn’t that weird?

That is very weird! And I need to ask someone who uses wordpress about the newsletter thing because I wanted to change things up but couldn’t even figure how mine was set up.

Thank you for mentioning the Jesse tree! I searched on line to learn how to make one and found printable ornaments that my grandchildren can color. That’s a great red scarf, and it’s a great color on you.
mimifce
It really is a fun activity: we are making some for our church school and hopefully the kids can color a little faster as Christmas is approaching!
Suzy Turner
WOW that first outfit is absolutely gorgeous on you, Mireille! The skirt is divine and I adore it with the off-the-shoulder sweater and cowboy boots. The second look is spot on too…you wear red and black really well!
Big hugs

I really like these red and black outifts! The first one is my favourite, what a beautiful skirt! 🙂 We always dress up for Chirstmas day too, it’s fun to wear something pretty and special even if we are just lazing around opening presents and eating lots of good food, haha!
Thank you for joining the Weekday Wear Link up! Hope you are having a lovely day.

I so agree! I am looking forward to dressing up a lot the next few weeks.
