Another Zoo Outing
We took advantage of our zoo membership for a visit a couple of weeks ago, and I wanted to share some of the animals I haven’t shared before. I bought a family+1 membership when we visited with my brother as the line was incredibly long for people without membership (never go to ZooAtlanta during spring break!), so on this past visit, I invited my 2 nieces to tag along. The prices have really increased at the zoo, so a membership is definitely the way to go!
I’ve actually shared this elephant before but he greeted us with doing his business when we arrived. I tell you, the smell was pretty gross and we had to move upwind pretty quickly!
I was pretty sure this was the snapping turtle but now I am unsure as snapping turtles have more of a beak! The reptile area at the zoo is really nice in the summer when you want a breather from the heat. It is a newer area that was built in 2015.
The giant tortoises are always neat to observe. There are 3 in the area outside the reptile buildings.
The white peacock was one of my favorites this go around. He really put on a show for us, twirling around and making his shaking sound with his feathers! How magnificent!
The Siberian tiger came out for a walk and I was able to take a video. As the trees leaf out in the spring and summer, it sometimes becomes more difficult to see him. We were excited to take a good look at him.
Lastly, the sun bears. You do not see them in too many zoos and they’ve been here at ZooAtlanta for quite a while. Both were napping today (I think they nap a lot) but I wanted to share them in case you had never heard of them. They live in the tropical forests of Southeast Asia and are the smallest bears.
And there you have it, my favorites from our last visit! Next travel posts will be about our time in North Carolina!
A bientôt!

It’s always fun to go to the zoo and see how is going to put on a show for us.

Wonderful animals…thanks for sharing these photos! The white peacock is new to me. He doesn’t let his lack of color stop him from strutting his style, does he?

We have seen a few in the past but this was the first time this one put on a show for us.

Thanks for sharing! We haven’t seen sun bears at any zoos before but one of our local zoos has a couple of moon bears.

Very similar I think!

According to what I read online, it is not an albino.

We go down to the San Diego zoo every summer. The giraffes are my favorite! 🙂

I miss going to zoos! We had an amazing one when we lived in NE Indiana…the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo…and nothing else ever seems to measure up. I used to buy my grands zoo memberships, but the prices have really skyrocketed, and they were kind of outgrowing it anyway. Now, I just give them money which they probably like better! And, yes, I have been downwind of an elephant doing his duty, and it’s not pleasant!
Thanks for sharing these photos, Mireille!

We definitely don’t go as often as we used to but it is still worthwhile for us to have the membership especially with having 4 kids.

It’s been so long since I’ve been to the zoo!

It’s always a great spot to take friends and family.

I’m never quite sure abut zoos as there are arugments for them and against, but this looks to be a good one. That peacock is just lovely.

Same here but they seem to do a good job of caring for the animals here.
