Fire Creek Falls and Recreation Area

Our Airbnb host had emailed me a list of activities nearby before our trip and this spot caught my eye as she said we could tube down a natural water slide. In anticipation of this possibility, I had packed some river tubes we had, as well as our pump which could be plugged in the car to inflate the tubes quickly and effortlessly. We also packed water shoes for everyone. Fire Creek Falls was about 20 minutes from our rental and we enjoyed it so much the first time, we returned for a second afternoon of fun.

To get a decent view of the falls, you must cross the river which went about mid thigh deep at some points. There were also deeper pockets so you had to watch your steps since the river’s bed was a combination of large and smaller rocks. I carried my 5 year old on my back since he was worried and I was quite a sight trying to keep my balance.

There were several spots with white water which made it fun to tube down and several paved hiking trails you could enjoy. Of course, my husband and the boys had to try to go further down the river and realized that only a couple spots were good for exiting the river. That made for a workout walking back up the river to exit it. The river was mostly easy to walk in but there were some deep pockets.

We really enjoyed the beauty of the area, but also how we could all have fun. My youngest enjoyed playing with the little rocks while the others tubed. Both my husband and I took turns so we could watch him.

We brought a picnic both times so we enjoy lunch at our leisure and we were also prepared with beach towels. Having an idea about which type of activities your vacation will include helps you save money by not buying doubles of what you may have at home and relieves some stress. We were well prepared for all of our activities.

What a fun spot to visit! Since we went on 2 weekdays, it was not too busy with people which made the experience more enjoyable. There is a bathroom on site off of the parking lot (a glorified brick portapotty type). We did see a water mocassin once which met his demise and the boys enjoyed seeing fish in the river as well as one large salamander.

I definitely recommend this fun spot if you are nearby!
