Sweater over a Dress
I have shared different sweater over a dress outfits in the past, usually as part of a blog post sharing daily outfits. My preference is to wear a denim jacket or a fitted jacket over a dress, but adding a sweater is both a warmer and cozier option on colder winter days. I wore this outfit to church on New Year’s Eve Sunday.
For today’s outfit, I chose a chunky sweater which I made more cropped by tucking it into a thin belt. I did try 3 neutral tan/cream sweaters before settling with this one. When choosing a sweater to pair over a dress, I have found that the neckline makes a difference as well as the cut.
While I really liked wearing this outfit, I struggled with the pictures: I had my son retake most of them with me angling in a different way: I am so used to trying to have pictures taken with a flattering angle, that the bulkiness of the sweater was making me reject some pictures. Thankfully, my son was patient.
I chose my French cream beret from VivietMargot and my tan boots to complete my look. I cannot wear my berets longer than half a day because the wool makes my forehead itch. I haven’t worn my hats this year, but I have worn my berets a few times.
The Anthropologie dress was a gift to myself when it went on sale. I was happily surprised with the purplish color and the silver thread throughout. The color is described as navy but the color is definitely purple. The top of the dress is really pretty and I cannot wait to showcase it this spring. The dress is no longer available but was part of the Somerset collection.
You cannot believe how beautiful this day was! Mid 50s in the afternoon with this beautiful sky was the perfect weather for a walk with a friend. I then attempted a nap, but rested instead: too many things on my mind. We ended the day with a nice meal and a fire and I worked on this blog post. I was asleep before 10!
The boys really wanted to have a more social new year’s eve, but after the past few weeks, health struggles with family members, more to dos for me and the death/funeral of a friend, I just wanted to take it easy. Our evening was just “what the doctor” ordered!

That is a lovely outfit! We’ve been focusing more on rest and de-stressing too; some seasons of life just require that.

I am excited to have some things to look forward to in the next few months.

What a lovely outfit! That rich purple color is so gorgeous!

It’s funny how the color on the website said Navy but it is purple (and looked purple in the pics). I love it!

Great way to strech your wardrobe by adding a sweater layer over a dress in cooler weather-I use this formula, too. Love your look, and the mix of textures and colors. Such a lovely sun shiny day to see-we are experiencing the dreaded arctic blast that has been sweeping the country bringing with it our first snow of the season. Brrr…Hope you enjoy your week!

I wish we were getting some snow but it is staying a couple hours north of us. We will get some really cold weather though in the teens!

I love how you cropped the sweater that way and it looks amazing over that dress.
Heck, we are always in bed before 10, LOL
XOXO

For me, it depends on the day: last night it was 9 pm and I slept pretty much till 6 am.

I would never have known this was a dress until you said so! I love the way you’ve bookended the hat and sweater with your boots. Gorgeous as always, Mireille!

I appreciated that you mentioned that you tried a couple different sweaters before settling on the right one. I love the sweater over dress formula, but it can be a bit tricky to get the right combination. This one turned out marvelously, and the beige beret and booties really make the sweater feel intentional through the repeated color. The thin belt trick is a good one.

Oh, yes, what I thought would work at first sure didn’t look that nice.

That dress is stunning! I love the color and silver threads. It works well under a cozy sweater!

Yes! I cannot wait to wear it without it.

I was admiring your gorgeous skirt and was surprised to find it a dress. I love this idea! Thanks for sharing!

It makes it easier to wear my dress in winter.

This is one of my favorite outfits of yours. YOu look amazing. It is hard to photograph bulky sweaters. I had to wear sweaters for my Ageless Style post this month because it’s so cold right now, and yes, they do add the pounds on camera.

Thank you! I cannot wait to share that dress with sandals and dangly earrings.

I can’t wait to see the full dress come spring, Anthro has such cute pieces! I love how you layered the sweater over. I never would have known it wasn’t just a skirt. And I totally know what you mean with the chunky sweaters and funky angles!

I did it again with a fun cropped sweater. No need for belt.
