Batumi Botanical Gardens

You probably will agree with me after you admire the pictures in this post, but I think this is the most beautiful botanical gardens I have ever visited. And we didn’t even get to see everything because it was much larger than we expected and with all of our walking, we decided to stick to some of the highlights. Welcome to Batumi Botanical Gardens!

By Georgian standards, the botanical gardens were a little expensive, 20 laris per person (our 6 year old being free). So we paid 100 laris ($36) for our family of 6 which wasn’t too made by American standards. And it the picture above, you see a glance of what makes these botanical gardens so special: they border the Black Sea.

The day was perfect for our visit if a little hot. We really did get tired of walking and took a little tram ride back up the hills back to the entrance after we walked the length of the gardens. The gardens are about 1 km long of paved path along the sea, but it is not a flat walk! If affords beautiful views of the sea in different spots and covers about 266 acres. Above you can see the zipline  that you can ride for 70 laris ($25).

The park was divided in different areas representing different geographical areas. There was a Japanese garden, an area with azaleas and magnolias…

I tell you, these pictures make me want to go back! The water is so beautiful! Towards the end of a vacation, you are ready to go home to your own bed and usual comfort, but this was a very good trip. We saw many different things and enjoyed it all.

A few trees were in bloom as well as rose bushes. The 2 flowering trees above were really striking with their unusual blooms.

We explored a couple paths that weren’t paved and I got stung by stinging nettles: I should have recognized them because it has happened to me before!

We couldn’t get enough pictures with the sea in the background. I am glad I did get a picture with my husband: I tend to take pictures of the boys and sometimes of just him, lots of pictures of me for the blog, but we do not have many of just the 2 of us.

When we arrived at the botanical gardens, we noticed an outdoors restaurant near the entrance and we could smell shashlik: Georgian BBQ pork which is cooked over an open fire: we knew where lunch was going to be!

The food was delish and we ordered an abundance of it! Different meats, salads, soups, and some lemonade. It was wonderful. I am not sharing the picture of the table because we forgot to take a picture before we ate: it’s a lot of empty plates!

So if ever you happen to be in Batumi, plan several hours to spend at the Batumi Botanical Gardens. We heard there were also several pretty national parks, but our time was limited so we were unable to visit them.

A bientôt!
