Rock City, Chattanooga, TN
Since we were not going anywhere on vacation for our week of fall break, I decided to take a couple overnight trips as I was able to get my 2 sisters in law to come over to help their mom who lives with us. The first overnight was a late anniversary trip for my husband and I, and the second was for the boys. I decided on Chattanooga as our destination for its proximity and all of the different things we can do there. We will probably return for another overnight during the Christmas break.
Rock City sits atop Lookout Mountain and features many large rock formations, beautiful views and bridges. We’ve visited a few times before, but because it’s usually several years before a return trip, it still feels new and impressive. Weekday admission is a little cheaper and you receive a $5 discount per person by getting your ticket online.
There are so many picture opportunities and it does look a little different depending upon the season. I definitely recommend going during the cooler months versus the summer time, because it would be a lot less enjoyable with the heat and humidity.
Majestic, isn’t it? The boys truly enjoyed our time there! As you can see in my post last month, they were eager to take pictures of me and earn some money even though I had not planned to take blog pics of my outfit.
I am not one for Halloween, so I was glad that the fall decor only included corn stalks and pumpkins. Nothing ugly or freaky to disturb us!
We made sure not to miss any of the trails, so we could see everything. I think we were there for about an hour and a half.
We ended our visit with the Fairlyland Caverns which displays many fairy tale scenes. These were moved into the cavern in 1947! Many of the gnomes and characters are original German pieces.
This part of the garden is as enjoyable as the outdoor views. It was fun to try to recognize the scene before looking at the signs telling you which fairy tales they depicted.
So whether you are traveling with children or not, make sure to add Rock City to you itinerary in Chattanooga!
A bientôt!

It’s a cute little town with lots to do. Definitely still has some areas that need to be revitalized and the interstate is still a mess, but we really like going to visit.

We always saw the billboard for Rock City, but we never stopped. I’d love to go after seeing your photos. I’m not sure that will ever happen now, though.

This time was me and the kids and then the hubby joined us that evening. I do need to share our overnight trip that we did earlier that week without the kids.

Definitely a fun place to visit: there is always something that went unnoticed on a previous visit.

We are local to Chattanooga and I must say, this place is every bit as magical as they say. We live about 3 hours away and we have done a staycation here once a few years back. We totally loved it. We have a big kitchen renovation project coming up and we are going to have a kitchen cabinet painting done. I’d rather not be home when all of the workers are around and I can’t use my kitchen so my husband and I are thinking of going back to Chattanooga for the few days they will be working with the kids! We decided to show them Rock City since they have never been! I can’t wait. And for my newly painted kitchen cabinets too of course!

Very cool! IF you are going during the holiday season, there is a fun little skating rink at the Chattanooga Choo choo!
