Batumi Singing Fountains

On our first walk on the boulevard by the sea (Batumi Boulevard), my hope was to end at the Batumi fountains which I had read about. The fountains move in synchronization with music and with lights in the evening. However, we walked in the wrong direction. The boulevard or promenade is 7 kilometers long and since we had walked probably several kilometers in one direction, we decided to leave the search for the next evening.

The second night found us once again stopping for ice cream and this time, we ordered the next size up with was still less than $2! Yum! We walked as it got darker and came across some restaurants and other attractions.

On the right are the Ali and Nino steel statues which are 26 feet tall. The statues move towards each other and through each other and are based on a novel written by a Azerbaijani author (Kurban Said) in 1937. They and the ferris wheel are close to the port side of Batumi.

Having made it to the end of the boulevard where the statues were, I despaired of finding the fountains. We started walking back towards the hotel and took a side street that paralleled the boulevard and stumbled upon the… fountains. We were excited! There are speakers all around the fountains playing music and benches to sit on. We sat there for quite a while admiring the drama of the music and the water display as the water rose and descended with the music.

We came back the next night, and I do not think we saw the same display twice. Once again we sat there for quite a while enjoying the music and peace. There were people around, but it was not too crowded.

We took a lot of pictures and videos!

This was definitely a must do in Batumi whether you have children or not. I would say it was probably a 20 minute walk from our hotel, but since we were strolling and taking our time, I don’t know for sure.

A bientôt!
