Banning Mills: Hike and Mushrooms

Last week, I shared a little about our overnight trip to Historic Banning Mills for our anniversary a few months ago. Today, I am sharing some more pictures, this time of our hike on the 2nd day. It was an overcast day which made it really comfortable for a hike and we were quite impressed with the number of trails there were on the property. We enjoyed this one and would pleasantly surprised with all of the mushroom varieties we encountered.

I love swinging bridges: whether they are in Costa Rica or here in the states, swinging bridges are really fun to cross!

When hiking in the fall, you might not see many flowering plants, but you will typically see a variety of fungi and I was very pleased with all of the different kind we saw. My favorites were the 2 above.

I was curious about the difference between lichen and fungi and it seems that the main difference is that lichen is composed of two organisms while fungus I made of one organism. The lichen is composed of fungus and an algae!

I don’t often take pictures of my husband, but I took a few on this trip. He always likes to look for fish, so that is what he is doing in this picture. We also found two frogs which were well camouflaged too.

This last mushroom makes think of a sun: it is called a Leucocoprinus fragilissimus! I thought that was a pretty fun name. It is also know as a fragile dapperling. That I might be able to remember.

What do you look for when hiking in the fall?

A bientôt!
