    Runner’s Spotlight: Joseph

Today’s runner’s Spotlight is a different format than my usual as I had my son share a 8th grade writing piece he wrote for class. I really enjoyed reading and learning about his thoughts about his 2 years running in Cross Country. So without further ado, here is Joseph’s story! “Ouch!” I cried in pain. “Ice it,” my mother instructed me. I grabbed an ice pack out of the freezer and put it on my heel. “It feels like a thousand bullet ants bit me,” I explained. The next few days, I ran and then had extreme pain in my heel. Stretching it didn’t help. I put on heel compression…

    Runner’s Spotlight: JP

Today, my older brother is sharing a little bit about his running story. We have run 2 Big Peach half marathon here, but he did run the first one too, while I did the 5K (first pic). Sharing our running stories with each other has been a fun way to strengthen our sibling bond. The past few years have seen him run more and less than other years. JP served in the Air Force for 24 years, being stationed in multiple countries, England, Germany, Quatar, Afghanistan and South Korea among others. Our family has lived in multiple countries at times, and finally my parents, siblings and I all live in…

    Runner’s Spotlight: Brooke

Brooke is a travel physical therapist and spent several months in our area. She joined our Wire 2 Wire running club while she lived here and was a great person to run with. She has amazed all of us with her endurance and accomplishments! 1. How and when did you start running? I grew up with a heavy dance background and had my fair share of knee injuries and finally one day I decided it was time to find a new hobby to keep me active. About 2 years before this, I met my now fiance, Keith, and he had just started getting into running so I figured I would…

    Runner’s Spotlight: Sarah T.

When I think of Sarah, I think small but mighty. Sarah impresses me with not only her strength and endurance in terms of running, but in her strength of character, so I was very glad that she was willing to share her story with us! I often run with Sarah and another friend, so that is why you see us as a trio in these pictures! Pretty soon, though, we won’t be able to keep up! How and when did you start running? Until my freshman year of high school, I was a nerd who hated sports. I decided to try track after a gym teacher casually mentioned that I…

    Runner’s Spotlight: Laura

I am back with another blogger friends who runs! Laura has 2 young daughters and has a lifestyle blog at I Do DeClaire. She lives in Illinois and works part time as a speech pathologist. 1. How and when did you start running? I started running in 8th grade. At the time I had played soccer a few years and wanted to get into shape for it. I was never any good at soccer. So a few years later when I missed soccer tryouts because I was sick, I decided to join the track team. After that, I joined cross country in the fall. That was when my true love for distance running…

    Runner’s Spotlight Part 2: Mark’s Life Lessons

Last week, Mark H. shared his running journey with us and he had a few more words of wisdom to share with us. Here are his life lessons learned from running. Thanks again, Mark for sharing with us! 1. Never say you can’t do something. 2. Never say you never will do something. 3. You might be surprised at how something (or someone) you were never interested in before suddenly becomes very appealing. 4. Learning to be disciplined in one area can overflow into every area of your life. 5. Keep going at a steady pace. 6. Don’t go to fast or try to get ahead of yourself or you…

    Runner’s Spotlight: Carrie

Carrie is another of my blogger friends who lives in the St. Louis area. I have been following her blog (Curly Crafty Mom) for a number of years and we both just sent our oldest to college. She has shared some posts about her running so I knew I wanted her to share her running story with us too! 1. How and when did you start running? I started running in 2008 after the birth of my daughter. A few other moms I knew that were looking to lose the baby weight were doing a 500 miles goal in one year and I decided to join them. I started out…

    Runner’s Spotlight: Bo

A few of my blogging friends are runners, and I will be sharing some of their stories in the next few months. Bo lives in Canada and during the winter months shares beautiful pictures of snow (we in the South would love to see snow more than once every 6-7 years), shares her fashion as well as her adventures in life which include a lot of outdoors time. Today, she is sharing her running journey. 1. How and when did you start running? That’s a great question that made me think way back.  I initially became interested in running while in University and nannying for a woman that I became…

    Runner’s Spotlight: Amber

Amber is one of those runners that you aspire to be. She is quick, she is competitive, but she is also sweet and while having her hands full with work and being a single mom of 4, she shows dedication in everything she does. Amber recently injured her knee but was quickly back on her feet after surgery and rest, and is back stronger than ever! She is again faster than me! 1.When did you start running? And why do you run? I started running in 4th grade. We had this project to build for our school and it was a trail. My teacher at the time was big into…
