Entertainment on a plane

Over the years, I actually I have started to pack less for my children’s entertainment. As they get older they do not use as many things and as I like to pack lightly, I have learned from our experiences. This post is dedicated to plane rides since I usually try to bring less.

Food

Yes, food is entertainment. It helps pass the time and can pacify children.

Baby:

My youngest will be 18 months old on our next flight to Europe. Travel times will be around 11 hours but actual plane time will be close to 8 or 9 hours. I will pack the following for the plane:

  • fruit loops
  • empty sippy cups for water and milk sippy
  • graham crackers

Boys ages 5-12

  • starburst to chew when taking off and landing
  • granola bars
  • fruit snacks

Games and more

I won’t be packing these this year, but the Usborne sticker books are awesome! They have some that will appeal to girls and some more for boys. These were some of my boys’ favorites.

We also usually pack books. I probably will pick a few of the baby’s favorites but these I purchased at the boys’ school during their spring book fair.

e

Next a few activity books but they don’t always use them.

Lastly we pack a deck of cards and a deck of Uno cards. Travel soap boxes work great to keep from losing cards!

The books and the card games usually keep the boys busy during the plane ride and during the trip itself when we have downtime at the hotel or in the car rides.

Of course, we do not forget our TABLETS!! I usually try to limit these but if the planes already have them the boys typically watch a movie too. I often book night flights for long flights so everyone sleeps at least a few hours.

For the baby, I am not sure yet what I will pack for fun, he does like little cars so probably a few of those and some little toy animals he likes.

Hope this helps!

A bientôt!

That’s so smart to pack these things to make traveling easier, Mireille.
Heck, we even take snacks for ourselves!!

I do bring a few things for myself too but usually things are tastier and more interesting where we go!

Clever mum. I never had tje courage to fly long distance until my faughter wS 8 years old. Then we maxe our 1st visi to Florida with her. This is now 20 years ago. Books and quiz books helped pass the time.

I remember having to pack for the kids when they were young – we tended to travel by car rather than fly. Now they are older, travelling is so much easier – and we can enjoy the experience. On a recent flight skiing, my youngest (who was about 18) remembered at the airport he’d left his spending money in his bedroom! Guess who he turned to! He never lives that one down. Good luck with your holidays with your boys – I am envious of how young they are. xx#Have a super Easter my friend. x Jacqui Mumabstylish

Thank you! When in the US, we do travel by car since it is a lot easier. The most we have driven in a day is 8 to 9 hours. But driving does require a lot of potty breaks and food breaks! Yes the boys always need their mom! Even as adults I am sure!

I’ve had to really think out of the box for airplane rides. I had good success. Our only problem the last time was that my oldest broke out in hives everywhere. It was some allergic reaction to something he touched outside.

    These are great tips!

This is a great list! I’m going to share this with my sister-in-law. She wants to start doing some more traveling with their little guy. This would come in handy.

Thank you! I used to travel by myself with the boys when I only had 2 of them on short flights so we have had lots of practice. I have definitely tweaked what I bring after the last few trips.

Very true! Thankfully the last few flights we have been on did not have delays and fairly short layovers.

These are wonderful ideas! My oldest loves the sticker books! We had a few different small toys for our 17 month old and even wrapped them in paper for something else for her to do! Card games and books are great ideas too!

These are such fantastic trips! So far we haven’t traveled on planes with our kids, but so many of these things would come in handy for car trips too!

Yes, it all can be used for car rides too. I just usually try to be more compact on plane rides but the books this year are kind of heavy!
