Kansas City: Kaleidscope and Crown Center Mall
While visiting my college friend in Missouri, we decided to take our boys to Kansas City which is only half an hour from her house. Wanted to be thrifty, we decided to visit Kaleidoscope and Crown Center Mall.
Kaleidoscope
Hallmark Kaleidoscope is a place where children can be creative with art. Children use materials from Hallmark manufacturing to create their art. As certain things run out, the materials are replaced them with other materials. The materials often to a season or holiday. During our visit, the center was celebrating Kaleidoscope 50th anniversary so children were able to make birthday hats among other things. The center is free and distribute tickets the day that you come. There are sessions every 45 minutes and they let a certain number of people in at a time so it does not get too crowded.
Our children enjoyed:
- the puzzle maker
- the glow in the dark room
- there is a neat machine that will dry the artwork you paint
- making crowns
I would think that this is an activity best for children 4 to 10 but my littlest and oldest still found plenty to do!
Crown Center Mall
We then headed across the street to the mall where did had an exhibit of Clifford the big red dog. This was a free interactive exhibit that recreates the world of Clifford. The exhibit was created by the Minnesota Children’s museum and Scholastics. There was a large 9 foot Clifford welcoming at the entrance and then different It was fun to see even the oldest having fun in the kitchen.
That morning was a good morning for the older boys to be good sports and let the youngest enjoyed themselves and I was very proud of them. We spent the afternoon at the pool after a picnic at the park.
Looking forward to visiting more of Kansas City on our next visit next year!
A bientôt!

I am thankful for friends with great suggestions! It is amazing how much to do there is when you do a little research. And we are finding what works for our family. Thankfully the kdis are usually up for some adventures!

My friend said that the Clifford exhibit was there 10 years ago when her oldest was little. I guess it travels around the country. Amazing how long the art place has been there!

We’ll go back next summer and visit something else! It is really nice for me that 2 of my good friends live close by each other so I can visit both and then the city too.
