July Favorites
July has gone by quickly! We have had some busy days and some quiet days, we have spent some time with friends and also alone together as a family and both were needed. Today, I am sharing my favorites for the month.
#1 Sunflowers
This is my 2nd year planting sunflowers and I have enjoyed seeing them as I drive up to my house. I occasionally cut one or two and bring them in. They bring sunshine and happiness indoors. We also went to a sunflower field to take some pictures and I cut a few to take home. Sunflowers remind me of my childhood and remind me of the south of France.
#2 Vacation
It is so refreshing and rejuvenating to get away! Changing up the routine and spending time with just our little family unit is important. After spending the last 5 and half months home, a week in the mountains was just what was needed. Cooler temps are a plus!
Expect a series of post from our trip: you can tell why it is called the Great Smoky Mountains!
#3 Hiking
Still being able to hike and to discover new state parks despite the heat has been wonderful. We usually don’t hike much in the summer but with less things to do, a free adventure in a shaded state park is awesome. We have visited at least 3 state parks this month and hit a couple different trails.
A bientôt!

Thanks, Kathrine. I am so glad most of the places we visit are less than an hour away. And even the Smoky Mountains are not that far.

I need to plant sunflowers next year- my kids would love to watch them grow!
The trails and mountains are just beautiful!

They do really well!

The sunflowers look so pretty! Next year I’ll try planting some again. Last year I planted the jumbo sunflowers and the squirrels climbed up the stem to get to the blossoms/seeds, and each one broke off. I need to plant a smaller kind!
Beautiful picture of the Smoky Mountains, wish I lived closer to them!

The mammoth sunflowers are kind of disappointing: large stem and not always a large flower. But enjoying them nevertheless!

It’s nice you have been able to travel and explore! I really like your sunflowers too! We bought sunflower seeds for drought relief last year but the flowers didn’t survive – we did see a little flower appear but with the bushfires and the air filled with smoke a lot of the veggies and plants we had been growing died 🙁 Still have lots of kale and my carrots seem to be growing till, haha!
Hope that you are having a great weekend 🙂

Carrots are resilient! One time we forgot about them and they grew so big and were not tasty lol!

The sunflowers are gorgeous!! I’ve never thought to plant sunflowers but it would be really nice to see them around the house. A week in the mountains also sounds like a blast! Cheers to the new month. 🙂

And sunflowers grow fairly easy, I feel like. Granted my mother in law is the one who waters everything here or it would die.
