The Sunday Showcase Link Up: August 2020: School Drop
Welcome to the August Sunday Showcase link up with Ada from Elegance and Mommyhood and I! We hit a little snafu and the link up will be live next Sunday with Ada’s post but since I had this post planned instead of my regular Monday post, you will see it twice, today and next Sunday with the live link up! This month we are sharing ideas about what to wear when dropping off or picking up your children from school. It actually has been a year since my 2 middle boys have been car riders but this year, I do not want them riding the bus where I think germs will be more prolific. That means I will be dropping off and picking up the kids at least for the first few months of school if not longer: 3 boys, 3 schools. Now of course, the outfits I am sharing today are also perfect for feeling put together at home if your children are doing virtual learning from the get go.
Our city schools offered two options with a late start date of August 18. The virtual option for the school year or the traditional option which can go through different phase (hybrid, regular school or virtual). We are choosing to traditional option which means the children will be starting school on a hybrid model with half the students going 2 days a week and the other half another 2 days. The rest of the week will be virtual learning. The school has a plan to reduce the spread of germs and we think our children will benefit from the socialization. Since my mother in law lives with us, we will make sure that we follow some good hygiene when we come back from school too.
Dressed up for drop off duty!
Now on to the outfits! While I have been known to occasionnally drop off the kids in my pjs, I usually try not to especially if I plan to make a stop for an errand after dropping off the kids. 3 schools means I might be in the car for more than an hour for drop off. The high school is the furthest at 15 min but I have not idea how fast this will go. The part I am not looking forward to is pick up which might take 2 hours of my day: yikes! The boys will be going to school on Thursday and Friday and with half the students minus the ones going full virtual, I am hoping it goes somewaht quickly.
I love the comfort of joggers and I especially like joggers that are not terry cloth or sweatshirt material because they can be dressed up without losing the comfort. Elastic waist makes for comfort and any tops will work. This is my dressier look with a tank and sandals. You have seen all of these pieces before which is how it should be: shop your closet for comfort pieces that can be used for a multitude of occasions and outfits.
Ignore the weird face on this pic! Can you believe I purchased this tank from Loft for $8 (couldn’t find it on the website anymore so it might be sold out)! These outfits today really show a wide range of prices: my joggers are the priciest items but I have worn them so much that I don’t mind the price tags. My tops were both thrifty and the shoes are mid range.
The easiest way to elevate an outfit is with your accessories: you know me and my leather earrings from Nickel and Suede! But you can find some cheaper options on Amazon and different small businesses. I cannot testify to others’ quality and am partial to Nickel and Suede. These spotted cork teardrops are always fun and add a pattern to your outfit. There are sales throughout the year so you can buy them for less. Colorful sandal? You should have a couple pairs in your closet: yellow, orange, turquoise: what a fun pop of color! These Target espadrilles sandals were different than my t strap sandals and I have worn them a lot in the past month. My Amazon tile bracelets are starting to show some wear but at less than $17 for the trio, I cannot complain and I love their colorfulness.
Dressed down for pick up duty!
Now my version of being dressed down is probably not the same as yours! Dressed down means my cute sneakers and something in a tee material. This pair of Jensen’s joggers are mostly sold out more there are many camo joggers out there. They are fun and can be used as a neutral.
This was a fun way to do some pattern mixing! This thrifted tee is fun with the square neck and while the colors are somewhat faded, I still enjoy wearing it.
I had fun taking pictures on the golf course accross from the condo in the Great Smoky Mountains. Lots of pretty spots!
Again a pair of statement earrings can add a fun colorful twist to an outfit.
What do you usually wear when on school drop off routine or waiting at the bus stop? Will you get dressed in the morning if you are doing virtual schooling this school year?

Such cute drop off and pick up outfits! Gosh, Mireille, I remember those days of kids going to so many different schools. I can tell you I do *not* miss those days! (Although, I did meet some nice moms along the way.)

There is just enough years between all the boys that they are not going to be in the same schools for the whole k to 12!

Our schools will not have in-school sessions at least for 5 weeks once they start in September….I would have liked a hybrid session and options!
Loving both of these casual but stylish looks. The yellow top is gorgeous and what a great buy too at just $8!

I am not looking forward to supplies shopping. I am going to work on spending less this month on myself: I just bought the boys new shoes, and my oldest some church clothes: cha ching at Target and Tjmaxx today!

Love that first outfit, the yellow and navy work so well together! It’s good that they are making schools safer for your kids. before everything really kicked off here they were splitting the office into half so we did rotating weeks, team 1 came in one week then worked from home, team 2 worked from home the first week then came in the other week. I wasn’t really comfortable or happy with that so it was a relief to work from home. Although I do wish I’d emptied out all the food I had at the office before they sealed off our floor….haha!
Good luck with the school pick ups! it sounds very tiring but it’s good you can spend the time doing that to make it safer for your kids 🙂
Hope that your week is off to a good start! 🙂

I can tell the teachers “Fashion blogger passing through lol!”. I really am so pleased with that yellow top!

I wish we could do the hybrid option! It is tough on parents to be doing it all, especially those scrambling to get childcare because they work outside the home! I love your outfits! The yellow and cargo pants are darling together!
mimifce
Yes! The hybrid vs is a nice middle. I almost offered to watch a couple kids in the neighborhood on the days my kids are in schol but then I realized that I would be on carpool duty with my own kids so it wouldn’t work.
Shauna
I just love this yellow on you. So cute that the shoes match too! I’m always a sucker for summer sandals in fun rainbow colors!

Very cute options! I haven’t done drop off and pick up in more than 8 years but as I was working at one of the schools at the time I was dressed for work when I did. I still haven’t decided if I’m dropping off/picking up this year for Alec but being as his school isn’t even in our town I’m hoping for bus.. but we’ll see. I still am skeptical we’ll even open in person.
mimifce
Yes, not sure how long it will last.
Gail
Your earrings are definitely your signature style! Love the camo joggers and pink/ecru top. Thanks for joining #WowOnWednesday.

Thanks, Gail! I try to branch out, but they are the ones I reach for the most.

LOve the yellow top on you , I never tire of yellow in the Spring and Summer. The embroidered top is quite pretty too, and love the camo joggers! I am looking at a pair of straights in camo as it is such a versatile print
