Children Spaces: How to Make it Work

I have shared different parts of my home, especially the chilren’s spaces as I have made small improvements. Today, I want to share one of our playrooms. We have 2 spots that are not bedrooms where the children play. One is a loft area off the middle boys’ room and the other is what I call our media room. The media room is where the boys play the Wii and Nintendo switch and where we store most of our board games, where we have our puzzle table and now our multi game table. The purpose of this post is to remind you that whether your children’s play space is in their room or you have a playroom dedicated to play, you should revisit that space periodically to make it work for the present.

Move Things Around

This is such a fun multi game table: we can play foosball, pool, ping pong, air hockey and a few other games. However, it has been sitting seldom used in my teen’s room. Today, as his brothers’ asked to play with it, we brought it out into this common area so that they could play it any time. We had lots of fun! I am hoping that we can get our cost per use out of it. We played with it when we first bought it and when we had visitors but now that we have it here, I think it will get a 2nd life. We found this on Facebook Marketplace for less than $100 and am glad I did not pay full price for it.

Declutter

I actually need to take some time and see which of these games we should get rid of. There are definitely several that we never play. I should also repair some of the boxes. There are also a few loose pieces that need to be put in their respective boxes. This room often looks messy so we need to occasionally reorganize it and declutter.

Here is the shelf after a declutter! I got rid of a few boxes and used zip bags from Amazon for the games, taped all of the boxes and put all of the loose pieces in their appropriate boxes.

Use What You Have

This chair was not being used in my teens room so I moved it in the media room so that the children could either use it while playing electronics or to balance in it. We bought it from Ikea years ago. The frames on the walls in this room hold the puzzles we have made.

What do Your Children Play With?

The puzzle table is really more for me than the boys. They do help sometimes but I am the one who comes back to it. If something sits unused for long, try moving it someplace else and if it continues to take space then it is time to get rid of it, time to donate it or sell it.
