The Fainting Goat Winery: Anniversary Date

So my husband and I celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary yesterday but knowing that he would be out of town, I decided we should do something fun and different on the weekend. We left the kids at home and my parents helped keep them entertained and happy and went to enjoy an afternoon at a nearby winery. I chose this particular winery from a list of recommendations from our neighbors (thank you neighborhood Facebook group!) and the key factor was distance and location. I did not want anything too far but was hoping for pretty scenery. The Fainting Goat is in Jasper, GA and is just an hour from home. The drive is very pretty and was a great spot for an afternoon picnic and glass of wine.

Choosing a winery/vineyard was actually quite a frugal outing for us. I prepared a picnic of cheeses and charcuterie meats, baguette from the French bakery (as well as a couple slices of their white chocolate raspberry cake), berries and a cucumber/tomato salad. That was part of my grocery budget and we tasted a couple of wines and settled on a glass of wine each. The afternoon started overcast and ended up sunny.

This is not a large vineyard but the set up was quite nice. There was live music, spaces between tables and shade! Nowadays, I enjoy any opportunity to be outdoors and do something different and it had been a while since we had visited a winery: I think the last 2 were in Europe!

I don’t usually share pictures of my husband on here but the occasion warrants it! Happy anniversary to us!

See those vines behind the sign? You might have noticed them in our North Carolina pictures: it is kudzu, a rampant vine brought from Asia originally to help with erosion control but it grows like crazy and is rampant. There were some guys cutting it down. It really looks cool as it climbs on trees and really everythings but it is not healthy to other plants.

There are actually a couple of goats on the winery property: they have a fun little enclosure and area where they stay.

This was such a nice outing and since I had originally planned an overnight trip in my budget (I saved all my change and $5 since January for that purpose), I will use the rest of my cash for my son and my husband’s birthdays which are coming up in September. I am going to try to plan a couple of dates a month and make them interesting: it is actually easier if it is not a dinner at night and it is more fun to do something different. It will take a little research to see what is available around here! And anything outdoors has my seal of approval!

This is the view from the entrance with the kudzu in the foreground. We went through a couple of small times on the way to Jasper and hope to stop at a few fun different shops next time we are in the area. We did stop at an antique/hardware/ice cream shop and I just had to have my picture taken on this cool bench!

I shopped my closet for my outfit but wore my new pair of Steve Madden sandals! I love them! They are a birthday present to myself. My husband called them mosh pit sandals because he felt rockers would be wearing them in a mosh pit (I had never heard that term and he had to explain it to me then I had to know how it was spelled as I thought he was saying marsh pit lol). The off the shoulder tunic is a few years old from Old Navy and my new strapless bra came in handy (how they I live without it before? It will come in so handy, I highly recommend it, tts). Comfortable and stays in place!

A bientĂ´t!
