March Sunday Showcase: Color Denim Jackets
There are several ways to transition your wardrobe from winter to spring and these ways might be different depending upon where you live. The past few weeks in Georgia have been very mild with an occasional cooler day. Today, for our March Sunday Showcase with Ada from Elegance and Mommyhood, I am sharing an idea that is not new by any means: adding a denim jacket to transition your outfits and give them a taste of spring. Both of the dresses I am sharing were hand me downs and both have long sleeves so I really would wear these outfits on a cooler winter/spring day. I chose non traditional denim jackets because I like how the colors create a contrast and brighten the looks.
I always love how Ada and I think alike in some way with how we interpret a theme. This time we both had yellow/mustard as a statement color in our outfits. Her hat is so fun and reminds me of my mustard beret. We both are enjoying dresses and I really like her fun colored tights/stockings. I do not wear my open toe booties much since they are not my most comfortable shoe so I need to be on the lookout for a softer pair. Visit by Elegance and Mommyhood to see more of Ada’s look!
White Denim Jacket
Until the last couple of years, I did not wear my white denim jacket much but I have really enjoyed it lately throughout the seasons. The only time I do not wear it is in summer because it is too hot for layers here. This jacket I found second hand at Plato’s closet.
I probably won’t be wearing my boots anymore as it is too warm but here is one way to brighten up a winter dress. The light colored boots still keep your legs warm but the white jacket add a touch of spring.
I also added white earrings and a white bracelet to continue the light color scheme.
Yellow/Mustard Denim Jacket
How fun is this yellow denim jacket? I came across it when reading one of Jodie’s post a couple of weeks ago and just couldn’t help myself and had to order it. It is a Kut from the Kloth denim jacket and has a nice stretch to it and fits very comfortable. The hem is a raw hem and kind of fun. Nordstrom Rack only has it in size xxs and xs now and I would say it is true to size. I am wearing it in small and it fits perfectly without being too tight. This golden Kut from the Kloth jacket looks identical except that the color might be a little more golden and the price is much steeper at $89.
I thought it looked really cute with this long sleeve maxi my mom gave me a few weeks ago. The waistline of the dress is not my favorite: is is almost an empire waist so I most likely will only wear it with a layer or at least a belt. On this day I wore both! I love the color of the dress and that it has long sleeves so I decided I needed to keep it in my closet.
I’ve been finding that when my younger kids take my pictures, it looks like I squint. I need to figure out a way to open my eyes without looking like a crazed woman!
We had a hard time taking pictures with the wind: taking blog pictures can be complicated: first I need to find a child willing to take pictures, next I have to hope there is no wind, not too much sun and last I need to figure out how to not squint! Maybe smile less, look up and widen my eyes! I’ll be working on it!
Don’t forget to visit Ada’s blog to see how she transitions her wardrobe for spring. The weather in Michigan is much different than ours in the south.

I chose Mica from Away from the Blue as my featured blogger from last month’s link up. In her post Thrifted Maxi Skirts and White Tees, she shared two casual outfits with maxi skirts. I always enjoy Mica’s posts because she always shares real life outfits and she has the most amazing designer bag collection. Since she lives in Australia she always inspires me to think ahead to the following season since our seasons are flip flopped.

Thanks so much for featuring me! 🙂 I love that I can still inspire you despite the different seasons! I find out spring/autumn get similar though, so I can’t wait for autumn weather to properly arrive here – it’s officially autumn but still feels very much like summer, haha! I’ve been having issues commenting on your blog – sometimes they just disappear – so I really hope you get this one!

The flipped seasons makes it really fun because I can think ahead. I have seen all of your comments though so I think they are coming through.

OMG…that yellow jacket is fabulous Mireille. It reminds me of my white one with the raw edge and it fits you so perfectly!!!
I wore my boots today and I was thinking it would probably be the last time for awhile too. Then again, I’m always cold, so I might get another day in.

The jacket turned out great. Hoping the color won’t fade on it as it is so bright. I will definitely hand wash it in cold water when it is time.

I have never seen yellow denim! I love it! Perfect with your royal blue dress. Both outfits are totally awesome!

Mireille, I love both of these looks so much! Denim jackets are my favorite in the spring time. The cobalt blue dress is fabulous and it looks amazing with the mustard denim jacket. Such a vibrant and fun color combination! I am just realizing that I have about 8 different denim jackets and every single one of them is some shade of blue denim. I need to be on the look out for some more colorful options in denim jackets. As for taking photos, sometimes I find it easier to use a tripod and remote especially if the kids are being less than enthusiastic to be my photographer. Usually, my husband takes my photos but he is not always available. The tripod and remote really makes things easier overall although it takes longer for a photo shoot to get set up and make sure the light and angles are right. I have no suggestions to prevent the squinting though except that when I find myself squinting too much, I put on sunglasses! Great post, my friend! I hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

Yes to sunglasses! The problem with my pics though happens I think on wordpress. I am thinking that it is when I crop them on my computer photo editor something happens. Going to test it out later when I am more awake. I have the small tripod that I plan to use more as it gets warmer in the mornings.

Love what you did with these jackets and these looks are perfect for the soon to come spring weather!

Thanks, Grace! We are actually having some mid seventies weather this week so I will only need my jackets in the morning.

Mireille,
You’ve combined so many great styling details into your looks that really work well together. Like you, denim jackets of various colors are prevalent in my wardrobe and I just adore the combination of a midi-length dress and one of these less traditional jackets. The boots like you’re wearing in the second look are great for extending boot season into early Spring because they are a lighter color and can easily be worn without tights to keep from overheating. You and Ada have done a great showcase this month.

I have had a love-hate relationship with my denim jackets. I think because I didn’t have the ‘right’ ones. I had a light blue denim jacket but it never seemed to work right, in my eyes, with the things I tried to pair it with. Bought a new Old Navy darker denim jacket and have been much more confident styling it. Same thing with my white denim, had one white denim that I never wore, decided it was the boxy fit that put me off. Recently bought a white denim jacket at a thrift store that I love. My PC even complimented me on it.
Just love both of your pieces. That mustard yellow is divine. So warm and sunshiny. Perfect for welcoming spring. I like the idea of wearing boots as a transition piece. Our winters are very short and I don’t get to wear my beloved boots much. I am going to try this tip!

I think the fit makes a big difference: I have a green utility jacket that I really like in theory but because it is too big I don’t wear it much. I will keep it until I find one to replace it though.

I really love the pop of yellow!
