Cost per Wear: Finding Multiple Ways to Wear an Item
A while back, I created a spreadsheet to keep track of how many times I wore something but I didn’t keep it up for long. Even though I do not keep track of how many wears I wear something, I do make sure that if I spent more than I usually do on an item, that I wear it a lot and find ways to wear it for more than one season of the year. This is the case of these Dahlia pants from XCVI that I shared a couple of weeks ago. I bought them with birthday money and with a coupon but I still feel like I need to make sure to get my cost per wear down. These are the ways I have worn it this past month as well as a couple of ways I plan to wear them! I have washed and dried them and feel like they fit better now (they were loose on me the first wear) and I am looking forward to wearing them this fall.
With a Graphic Tee
Casual look with a tee and white sneakers. The pants are pull on style and soft. Tney do stretch out some so be sure to size down. This outfit works well for many seasons as our fall is usually mild.
With a White Peasant Blouse
I have had this blouse for so many years! I should love the simplicity and feminity of it! I paired them with a casual shoe and a pair of my daintier earrings.
With a Long Vest
I enjoyed this outfit! This is actually a shirt dress that is too tight on me and I have been wanting to find a way to wear it. I love it especially the collar and large buttons. Be prepared to see it worn this way from now on. I have been taking a hard look at my closet this week and decided that I do not want to make certain things work if I feel blah about them: even if I paid money for them, I do not need things taking extra space. In most cases, I did not spend much on them or they were fairly old. In this case though, I love my new purpose for this dress (I have had it for 7+ years).
With a Tunic Tank
This is one of my favorite and oldest thrifted items: it is timeless, classy and a great neutral to pair with color or another neutral color. I probably have had it for 6 years or so. I paired it with black booties and this would be a pretty look for a date. Recently worn the top with white leggings and sneakers.
With a Kimono
I think this is my favorite look! I have been wanting a kimono in more neutral colors (most of mine are really bright) and picked this one on sale on Amazon. I am a sucker for tassels and I like the cut and splits on this one. I have reorganized my earrings so I can really see them all and chose these leather brown ones. A little fun pattern mix with the snakeskin booties. It’s not cold yet so this is the type of outfit I will be wearing the most to transition into fall: booties and a light layer.
A bientôt!

They are a great pair of pants, I’m really loving the color! And you found so many great and different ways to style them! My favorite look is when you styled them with the white peasant blouse. But they all look fantastic!

I hate when I see an item hanging in my closet that I know I’ve hardly worn. That often happens with dressier clothing for me but I get it as I don’t dress up much. However a great pair of favorite new pants I can wear in a lot of new ways are always a win! All these looks are fabulous.

Thanks, Joanne! I was pleased with our pictures (I had others at first that were just blah and ended up donating 2 tops!)

I also love it with the black shirt dress. I totally agree that we don’t need to make things work when we don’t like it. I just sell it on then.

Yes, there are certain things I just finally took out of my closet this week. But the shirt dress I will wear next week with jeans!

I liked the dichotomy in the peasant blouse + sporty shoe outfit. The black dress worn as a long vest looks terrific!

Thanks, Sally! I had been meaning to try the dress as a vest and finally did it!

It’s so good to make sure we wear what we have. I love how you changed it up with all of these outfits Mireille. I think my favorite is with the long vest.

The long vest is a winner! Especially that the dress is too tight as a dress now!

Those pants are going to owe you money! Each and every look is fabulous! And, isn’t it fun repurposing clothing? Once I gave myself the freedom to see clothing as clothing not as a specific piece of clothing, my closet grew even more! Love the scenery!

Well, at first I was somewhat disappointed in them because I probably should have sized down more but now that I washed and dried them, I feel better about them. I really have like them on the blogger who always wears them so I know they can be styled all year long.

You kept a spreadsheet? 🙂 You are more type A than me! Cute looks. Yes, a lot more goes with olive green than one would think.

For about a month or two. I just didn’t make the tiem to keep up with it. It was pretty cool to see the cost per wear go down though!

They are great pants on you – such a good basic! I think with the kimono is my faovurite otufit with them too, I just love kimonos! 🙂
It’s always interesting to look back on the ways I’ve worn things and calculate cost per wear – although I didn’t always track my spending through the blog to let me do that I do appreciate the fact that I’ve been taking photos of my outfits almost daily for so long so I can see exactly how many times I’ve worn things. It’s just habit now to take a photo each day before I leave the house, haha! 🙂 I’ve been impressed with how many fast fashion pieces I’ve managed to hit 30 wears on too.
Hope you are having a lovely weekend 🙂 We had a fun day at the playground yesterday.

Thanks, I liked them because of the elastic waistband and the details on the side. I am glad drying them makes them fit better. The material is nice too because it is not too thick.

Those pants go great with everything you styled up! They’re perfect and they look amazing on you. I too prefer them with the tassled kimono- super cute! I also love that you did a cost-per-wear; I do that too and teach my fashion students to always bare this in mind- It’s mind-boggling when you do this exercise, isn’t it? xx

I am trying to learn to not waste money if I buy clothes: if it is more expensive, I need to justify the purchase by wearing it and making sure it is good quality.
Lovely
These pants looks great on you, and these are fab ways to style it. Love your kimono!

I can’t wait to wear the kimono again. It’s funny how I go through my phases: neutrals for now!

These are all such fun looks, and I really love how you think about it as cost per wear. That’s such a great idea!

I try to: I am not always good about it: I did buy a few things this past year that I shouldn’t have and have already donated. I am getting better though and if I do spend good money, I definitely make sure it is a keeper and I wear it many ways!
Penny
There are some excellent ideas in this post. Particularly love the black and white graphic tunic with the black boots and hat – very stylish Mirielle!

Thanks, Penny! I really liked how that outfit turned out!

I wish I had stuck to keeping track as you do but at least I have a general idea of how often I wear something.
