Another Sunday, Another hike
As I have mentioned before on the blog, we have several really pretty places to hike in a 15 minute radius from our house. These trails are really handy if we want to hike on a Sunday afternoon since we have less time to drive somewhere after church and before dinner. I have shared this particular hike before here but found some different pretty little nature treasure to share this go around.
The hike starts near this old furnace and is just a little over 1 mile long one way. You can hike through the woods or take a shorter road up.
I like this hike because it borders a creek for a bit and passes a little pond. It is mostly shaded which makes it more pleasant year round. We typically don’t hike in the summer though because who wants to hike in the humidity with the bugs!
We had some heavy rains this summer and last month and it uprooted some trees. This one was in the middle of the path and it took me a couple tries to figure out how to climb over it. Thankfully, my husband showed the way. I have been enjoying childless hikes the past couple of weeks but will need to take the boys next go around!
I always enjoy little bridges on hikes. We have been to several state parks with really cool bridges but the little ones are fun too I always wonder how the rangers or whoever is in charge decides what is a hiking trail. Do they always use existing paths or do they sometimes create them.
At the top of the hike, you get a nice view of the Etowah river as well as the dam. Water was not being released so the dam was not nearly as pretty so I took a picture of the lake instead.
Depending who I am hiking with, I end up adapting my pace. Last hike was slower as it was with my friend and her daughter and this one I would say was my regular pace. This past weekend, we did not hike since I had a baby shower to attend as well as a birthday at home for my now 4 year old! Next weekend seems like a good time to try a new hike!
We always notice new little plants when we walk and I am always at the variety. Sometimes I don’t even notice them until I start looking.
A bientôt!

It’s going to be chilly but it is a new state park to us so it should be fun. Planning to pack a picnic!

It was nice! Now that the boys are getting older, it is so much easier to do this every once in a while.

Mireille, I don’t know how you get anything done with this just 15 minutes away! I would be making excuses all day long! Absolutely lovely!
