Silver Belles for the Sunday Showcase
Silver bells or silver belles? Why not both? Ada and I wanted to come up with something a little different for the holidays as we often think of red or green for the holidays and giving silver the spotlight seemed like a fun idea. Since I am shopping my closet till the end of the month (wahoo: this is a record for me, that will make it 2 and 1/2 months!), I turned to my shelves and hangers for inspiration. I was pretty sure I would wear this asymetrical top which I first wore here but what to pair with it? I tried several skirts but nothing I had was the right length or material to make a cohesive holiday look.
Then I thought about this fun pair of pants! Red, interesting cut, they look festive, I believe! Both the sweater and pants are second hand, one from Goodwill, the other from Ebay bought this past year. I still think a cute black leather or suede skirt would have been pretty with this top but alas, I am working with what I already have.
Putting this outfit together had me so tempted to order a pair of fancy boots (my Lainee boots in black would be pretty) or a pair of pumps. This is my fanciest pair of shoes for winter in and they are not super dressy! I will be on the lookout in the new year.
I don’t wear this wide belt very often but it is quite handy. Because both the top and pants were flowy, I wanted to define the waist a little. In restropect, I probably would have pulled it down some but here we were trying to take pictures quickly as it was right after the high school dismissal and just a couple blocks from the school.
The sweater is really festive in person as it is shiny and sparkly. At the bottom, is a close up picture so you would admire that detail. Most of my wardrobe is casual so if I were to go to a special night event I would probably have to rent something. But since that is an unlikely, I can be creative with what I have for a casual holiday dinner with friends or acquaitances.
While I never wear makeup (maybe once or twice a week), I would definitely add some for a special outing.
I am really loving Ada’s outfit! She looks fantastic in this soft silver collared sweater and plaid mini skirt. I love these patterned tights (can you believe I don’t own a single pair of tights?) and the fun patent leather booties.
Ada really paid attention to the details in this outfit: the earrings are fun and pick up the skirt’s pattern and the bag is the perfect size and shape to add to the outfit without taking the focus of it. Well done!

I chose Marsha in the Middle’s post, Artists Galore! from last’s months linked up posts. You will not believe that Marsha has been blogging for less than a year! She is a wonderful storyteller that will keep you coming back to read her posts and laugh with her as she tells stories about growing up, her teaching days and everyday adventures. She will do so while sharing some fun outfits sharing her love of certain brands (that I had never heard of until reading her blog) like April Cornell tunics and dresses and L’Artiste shoes. I am a little jealous of how quickly she has gotten readers and commenters and friends through her blog posts!

Gosh, I just love this with those pants Mireille.
And the idea of renting something if you need something dressy really is smart. I’ve done it and even blogged about it. Considering those dresses tend to be expensive, I think it’s smart to rent them when you need them.

Yes, renting a fancy dress is probably the way to go unless you find the perfect thrifted fancy dress! I have really enjoyed the fun pants!

What fun dressy outfits on both of you! Love those red pants for the holidays! I have a longer silver sweater too (hand-me- down from my sister), might try adding a belt to it this year. I haven’t bought any new wardrobe items since I bought my Chelsea boots from Marshalls in September and I wear those all the time. I’m really happy with my minimalist wardrobe. I do have a $40 gift certificate to spend at Nordstrom but can’t even decide to buy anything because I feel like my wardrobe is complete at the moment, so I keep hanging on to it in case I see something I absolutely want 🙂

That is impressive, Ellie! I am back to shopping lol!

Mireille,
I think that you did a wonderful job shopping your closet for this “silver bells” look. Those red pants are fabulous and pairing it with your dark gray top was a smart choice.

the red pants are such a fun statement piece and they are perfect with the assymetrical hem of your knit – the peices work so well together!
I like wearing more sparkly pieces in the festive season too, I’m going to break out one of my sequin tops this weekend!
Thanks for joining the #WeekdayWearLinkup!
Hope that you have a great weekend ahead! We have a couple of fun Christmas parties to look forward to 🙂

I am going to be on the lookout for one more to have in my closet. Maybe a tank or camisole.

I love the silver idea for the holidays! Unique but still festive. I, too, am realizing my closet is totally lacking festive winter shoes. I only have silver sandal heels to go with my sparkly dresses, but those are so impractical for winter! I would love to get a pair of silver sparkly booties. You have inspired me to try and do a no-shopping year… but then my mom told me I shouldn’t start until I get back from abroad so that I can buy souvenir clothing items! Haha, she is a bad influence.
Miles of smiles,
