June No Shop: Success or Failure?

As Ada and I start our month long skirt series, you are going to have a couple extra weekly posts here and there. I wanted to share my May/June clothes spending recap before July started. My goal was to thrift more than retail as well as attempt a no shop June. Without further ado, here is what I spent and some of my favorite outfits from June.

May

I had a little giftcard money leftover so the first few items were $0 out of pocket.

Upscale Cheapskate consignment: 2 tops, 1 pants: $36, $0 with gift card. My favorite top is below!

Target Clog Sandals $28 $0 with gift card

Upscale Cheapskate: $45: clothes for fall: 3 Free People tops and 1 sweater skirt. Here is one of the tops!

New Orleans: boutique skirt: $85: expensive but I do love it and we were on vacation!

Total: $130

June

My goal was to not shop: well I did shop but I did not regret my purchases and I am glad for what I did spend.

IdeasValyen booties: as I explained to my kids, sometimes you will spend more for quality, uniqueness and to help a small business. I met with Yenni at her little kiosk at the Painted Tree Boutiques in Snellville and my eyes were drawn to these leather booties with the embroidery: probably the most I paid for a pair of shoes and I cannot wait to wear them in the fall! $107 including tax

Target Tan Linen Pants: $25 size XS, they run big and I love them: perfect for Coastal Chic outfits!

Upscale Cheapskate Consigment: $8 total for a camo mini skirt and a navy stripe jumpsuit (70% off clearance!)

Total: $140

Again, I did not succeed at my no shop so maybe I will do better in July: I think it will be fairly busy so that will give me less opportunities to go to stores. I really have done well with not shopping online and not giving in to impulse buys so that is progress! When I did shop though, I had items in mind that would work with my closet or be a special addition. Here are some of my shopped from my closet outfits from June. A few didn’t photograph well so I am not sharing them.

Hope these give you some inspiration: I am trying to wear loose pants and skirts more than shorts as I find them more comfortable in the heat. I also try to pull out something if I haven’t worn it in a while like those pink joggers. A couple tees needed a spin so I added them to my rotation. One thing I need to do though is wear kimonos more often.

Had to add a picture of my jumpsuit which I hadn’t worn in a while! So comfortable and I really should reach for it more often.

So are you shopping your closet or shopping online/the stores this summer? Either way, hope you are enjoying what you are wearing!

A bientôt!

You have some amazing finds and that’s ok – sometimes you have to strike when you find something good. I don’t think the amount you paid for those boots is too much at all. They are gorgeous. I have those Target pants in the cream and white stripe and I can’t wait to wear them. They are a bit long so I will have to see if I need to hem them or if a higher heel will do the trick!

I’m 5’4″ and I wore the pants with flats the other day: they drag some but not too terribly! I have enjoyed wearing them: such comfort!

I do believe in spending more at our local boutiques too. It’s really the backbone of our communities and worth it.
How do you get credit at Uptown Cheapskate?? DO you take clothes in to sell??

My giftcard was from my CC points but yes since it is a consignment store you can take clothes to sell and get store credit or cash.

Mireille, you may not have succeeded at your no spend, but you definitely succeeded at getting some gorgeous clothes and boots! I love, love, love that skirt you bought in New Orleans and can’t wait to see it often on your blog! And, those boots!!!! Wowza! They are fabulous!

I love that skirt too! At least I don’t feel like I bought just to buy, I got a few really good pieces. Balancing my checkbook at the end of the month though, I do want to see what I can do for the rest of summer. No promises, just effort to wear what I have.

You did great! I’ve been very good at not buying what I don’t need! especially after I had to unexpectedly buy a new laptop in May, I’ve been watching what I am spending. Wednesday, I did buy the cutest eco-friendly workout set after my AKT class. But I had been eyeing it for weeks but wouldn’t buy it and then my friend told me it was 50% off so I had to.

I am going to see how I can end the summer: the month looks like it is going to be busy giving me less opportunity to get tempted by something. That sounds like a great buy, Jennifer!

Those leather – embroidered booties are fabulous! I can’t wait to see you style them. All of your outfits look great Mireille. You have a wonderful knack for consistently creating lovely outfits. As for the spending, although I’m not religious, I always liked this quote, “We make plans, and God laughs.”
