Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park
With life’s recent challenges, I have had to make sure to take time for myself to recharge. Last week, I shared part of my husband’s and I day date (in Marietta, GA) and today I am sharing the first part of our little outing. We decided to hike Kennesaw Mountain since it is about 30 minutes from our house, it’s a fairly short hike and it was a beautiful cold winter day.
We brought along some snacks and water as we originally planned to walk this trail with the boys. One of the local vendors of our summer farmer’s market has been holding a small table/booth at a store downtown to sell her French goodies. She does not have a storefront yet, so right now takes orders online and has people pick them up at different locations. I am happy that one of them is only 12 min from the house.
I bought 3 “pain au chocolat” and enjoyed one at the top of the trail. The hubby and I enjoyed the views and took our time.
“Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park is a 2,965 acre National Battlefield that preserves a Civil War battleground of the Atlanta Campaign. Opposing forces maneuvered and fought here from June 19, 1864 until July 2, 1864.” (official website), You can read more about it by clicking that link.
There are several cannons (a couple at the base where the visitor’s center is and 4 at the top of the mountain and I remember the boys enjoying those. It seems that they have added the fences more recently, but it had been at least several years since we had visited.
Of course, I had to share a hiking outfit picture: I wore my hiking shoes, decided to rock the taller socks with the leggings and a cozy sweatshirt. That rose souvenir shirt from this summer has been one that I have reached for over and over. It is nice and warm and very soft.
One of the things I like about living in Georgia is that we can have beautiful winter days that even though they are cold (it was barely 40 degrees), the sun makes them feel a little warmer. Great day for a short hike!
A bientôt!

What a great way to recharge! There is so much snow and ice right now around here so getting out isn’t very easy. Love the views!

We may complain about to getting any snow but it does make it easier to get out and about.

It’s so good that you find time to get away with all that is going on. AND I love how you support the local people too.

What a pretty place to visit, and the pastry looks delicious! Is that Atlanta’s skyline in the distance? Even at 40 degrees, I’d probably still have a winter coat on, and I live in Central Indiana! I’m just always cold during the winter.
Thanks for sharing all the photos, Mireille!

Nice hike you took, and thanks for sharing the interesting photos. The sweatshirt top you wore is pretty, and French patisserie looks good too!

French pastries are always good! That sweatshirt is so soft, I reach for it all of the time.
