From an Idea to Reality: Outfits of the Day

Today, I am sharing how I plan for outfits during the week: I am sharing a collage of how I thought the outfits would work and how I was pleased in some instances, but also how I changed certain outfits. I love planning my outfits ahead of time because it encourages me to pull out things I haven’t rotated and it helps me come up with new ideas. This is probably a post similar to others I have written, with real life outfits, but today I do have the before idea photograph as a quick outfit layout.

Pink Sweater

I have loved this sweater since I bought it last month and have won it several times: the color is just marvelous! It is cozy and soft. I wore it exactly as I had planned with the addition of my shacket for extra warmth.

Olive Vest

This is another outfit that translated perfectly in real life. Another buy for this year, the cropped vest is so fun to wear. I hadn’t worn the grey sweater in a while (I have it in tan too), so this reminded me how good it was.

Long Duster Cardigan

The only 2 things that I kept from the original outfit idea were the cardigan and the shoes. I just didn’t feel like wearing that top and those pants. I wore this to church.

Plaid Dress

I knew I would love the dress with the boots and tights, but I ended up a little cold so I added this warm long vest. It is nice and thick and kept me comfortable while I was outdoors.

Sweater Dress

I switched the boots for my cowboy ones and added a scarf to my original idea and voila: a warm outfit for a cold winter day.

I typically plan outfits 3-5 days ahead of time and make adjustments as needed. As you saw in this post, some were exact copies of what I laid out while others were adapted from my original ideas.

I wished that would work for me. If I lay something ready at night for the next day, mostly I don’t like it in the morning. So stupid right. Love the sweater dress! Happy weekend.

Such a good post! I know some people don’t like planning their outfits because they feel like they’re going to wake up and not want to wear that thing. But as you show, doesn’t mean you can’t just make adjustments! I’m always more creative too when I lay things out ahead of time instead of trying to throw something together while rushing around in the morning.

I’m a fellow outfit pre-planner, and I don’t think I could get by trying to come up with outfits every morning! I like that you showed how you can pre-plan while still remaining flexible to the vagaries of mood, weather, etc. I think some people assume that pre-planning somehow locks you into a very specific outfit, but it really doesn’t have to! The plaid shacket is perfection with the pink sweater – a great addition. And I can’t say no to adding a beautiful (and warm) scarf to a winter sweater dress outfit!

I do think it’s helpful to plan ahead. Otherwise we tend to wear the same things over and over. I just love the cropped vest but I love the longer one too.

As long as I wear everything in my closet, I feel good about buying new things. So the planning helps me in that manner.

I’m nowhere near as organised as you, Mireille! Which is probably why I end up wearing the same things over and over again! I must take a page out of your book and try a bit harder!
You look fabulous in all these outfits, I especially like the sweater dress at the dress. It looks nice and cozy for the cold at the moment!
