Tulle and Denim
I had a couple of ideas on how to style my tulle overlay “dress”, but the ideas I had for summer did not translate the way I thought they would in reality. Then I remembered that Jodie recently layered her tulle skirt under a denim skirt in one of her recent post (see here by scrolling to the end of her post) and I decided to try that: success: a cool outfit to wear for Saturday night church!
There are some days, I just reach for an easy tried and true combo while other days, I like to get the creative juices going and come up with some fun outfits to wear out and about. I love when I get an idea from a friend and Jodie always had fun ideas to try. Like her outfit, I matched the tulle with my top and then I accessorized in the same color.
I’ve been having a grand ole time decluttering this summer! I am hoping that by the time school starts, all of the junk will have disappeared! My youngest tends to bring home the little toys that are rewards but are the bane of my existence because they provide 2 minutes of fun before becoming clutter. I took this particular day to discard these and went through the boys bookcase to give away books the boys don’t read anymore.
Some of the picture books were books I had had since my first teaching days 20+ years ago. I was glad that a neighbor’s daughter wanted them for her classroom. Closets, drawers and shelves have been decluttered and organized. I love that feeling of accomplishment.
I’ve tried to give the boys one daily task to accomplish whether it is cleaning or organizing: dusting, cleaning mirrors, vacuuming, taking out trash… They also have to read daily, play outside and try to come up with something creative whether it is a craft or a game. They then get rewarded with an allowance or the opportunity to order a book or get a treat on the weekend. That only really worked for the first month of summer though.
I really like how this outfit turned out! I still think the tulle overlay would look cool over a pair of dark denim or camo pants: I will try both this fall and share here if the outfits come out the way I hope!
A bientôt!

You will like the next two ways then!

Haha, well at least you got a month’s work done. Love the idea of styling a denim skirt under a tulle one. I’m a fan!

Thanks, Nancy! I will have to try it with other skirts!

Yes, it really turned out a great combo.

The coolest layering ever. I definitely need to bring out my tulle overlay and play with it after our vacation.

Now, that is a fun outfit! Jodie is definitely the Queen of Inspiration! When we moved nine years ago, I decluttered a lot of stuff (things I wish I’d hung onto). Then, two years ago, when we downsized from over 4000 sf to 1800 sf, I really had to get rid of things. So, I’m pretty uncluttered…except for my closet which will always be in a state of flux! I hope your sons have a wonderful end to their summer and an even better start to their new school years.

I have a few more fun outfits coming up with that tulle overlay. It’s so fun. I am very lucky my closet is large!

I was really surprised how well it worked together. It would be really nice on cooler days for extra warmth, add boots..

I love the way these skirts layered so nicely! It’s such a fun and unique result. I need to do some digging and see if I can layer any of the skirts I have. So fun!

It turned out really cute!

Thanks, Gail!

This is a great look on you, Mireille! I love your creativity and the way this experiment turned out. Jody comes up with the best ideas to share. I am rather paralyzed currently, about decluttering. I have regretted some of the things I have let go of, mostly it’s wardrobe items. Household items are a little bit easier for me. Hope your family had a great summer and your boys are looking forward to the school year ahead. Thanks so much for commenting on my blog and for your interesting posts. Hope you have a good rest of the week!

I decluttered some in the boys room but there wasn’t much that had to go, just a couple stuffed animals and a few clothes.
Jill
Okay, this is such a good idea! I would have never thought to layer tulle under denim! I Absolutely love this look!

It’s really fun! Now I need to see which other skirts it will work with. I think mostly pencil skirts because fuller skirts really look full with it under at the waist.

Well, I would never wear that tulle under the skirt, and BTW, I never wear skirts! they make my wide hips look even wider! But I applaud your daring and it looks really cute on you! You go girl!

Thanks, Linda! I am sure you could find a style that you would like! There is one style I do not wear, pleated skirts, but otherwise I kind of like them all!
