Street Style: Monochrome Black with Red Coat
You know me, I love to shop my closet and today’s outfit is inspired by Pinterest. I don’t often wear my leggings anymore but they are comfortable on cold days where I especially want a cozy fit. When I was browsing for some ideas on how to wear my red peacoat which I have had for at least 10 years, I came across this simple outfit and decided it would be a great one to replicate and wear.
The morning of the day I took these pictures, my sister in law gave me a black oversized t-shirt one of her customers gave her. I really like the saying, so I decided it would be the perfect tee to add interest to my outfit. The basics are there: leggings, black tee, white sneakers, red overcoat.
I really don’t wear this coat much anymore (I have had it for probably 12 years), but I love the color. I think I would prefer a slimmer trench silhouette like the one in the inspiration picture, but until I come across one while thrifting, this one will work. It is warm and of great quality and it is nice for the holiday season.
I do not wear my white sneakers much in the winter, but I do like the contrast with the black leggings. Both my pairs of leggings need to be updated, but since I don’t wear them much, I will wait till they actually fall apart!
This was quite a busy day, with dropping off a couple things at my sister in law’s apartment, a hike with my 18 year old and some chores around the house. I am just impressed I got my son to get up before 10!
After wearing these leggings all day, I might just have to add them into my rotation and switch out the jeans for them once in a while: quite a comfortable pair and I have enough long, fun tops to make a leggings outfit interesting!

I love this look. I have been on the hunt for a bright read coat myself. I used to have one that was handed down to me from my grandmother but once I lost all the weight I was just swimming in it. I love that bright pop of color in winter though and almos always found myself pairing it with all black. Your outfit it spot on!

This one has worked well. And since I barely wear it, it has not shown any wear!

That’s a gorgeous combination and I absolutely adore that coat. Love the strong colour which I think is so needed in the winter.
Also the leggings and the white shoes are great together. I wear leggings all through the winter but I wear them with a skirt so it is doubly warm when out for a walk. Actually I think it’s really interesting how in the UK we go out for a ‘walk’ which I do every day (5-8000 steps or more) and hiking is for really wild country which I don’t do. But of course I am talking about walking in urban areas. Which I think you don’t do so much in the States unless you live in the middle of a city. I’m always interested in cultural differences.
Actually do wear that red coat more often – it really suits you.

The leggings are great under dresses and skirts: I do that too! It hasn’t been super cold here except some this week. We do have snow today. A first in 7 years! Here is more like suburbs so I walk in our neighborhood with a friend regularly. Hikes are just the occasional thing.

Mirielle, I love your red coat! I agree with Penny you need to wear it more often! I love wooden button closure details. The coat has a classic look and fits the newest trend! Fisherman aesthetic and the coastal grandmother look that is so popular! I just posted about my fisherman aesthetic look on my blog. Cozy Cableknit sweaters, rubber boots etc..
Thanks for stopping by and saying hi! 🥰

You are so fabulous at getting inspiration from Pinterest. It’s amazing how we can combine things in different ways to make them new again.

That look worked out perfectly! Love it and you make me want to wear leggings!

I think it is what you pair with them: something longer for sure for me and then some type of accessory whether a scarf, an extra layer…

This is a nice look, I might copy it myself! I have a new pair of cosy leggings.

It’s funny how old these are: I guess they were well made because they are lasting a long while!

You look so chic in this red and black outfit! I love the black column of color under the red. I haven’t worn my leggings yet this year. I may have to dig them out for next week.

AFter these pictures, I have surprised myself with wearing my leggings at least once a week, even if only on Sunday afternoon with a sweatshirt.

What a great red coat. And the long tee and leggings make it such a fun, functional look. The white tennies are icing on the cake. They add some pop!! I saw a very inexpensive red ‘car’ coat soemwhere…maybe Old Navy?? I rarely wear coats here because I am just popping out of the car and into the house or the store or church. But it was so cute and so affordable. Now I wish I had purchased it. Hmmm, wonder if I can find it again?

You could really replicate the look with any colorful or even printed longer coat!

I adore this coat! This color palette makes a wonderful statement during this dullness of winter.
