3 Ways to wear Leggings

Wearing leggings as part of an outfit does not mean that you have to look like a slob: you can look put together weather you are wearing them casually with a sweatshirt and sneakers or they can be part of a really cute outfit. Think about outfits where you would be wearing black jeans. I just make sure that my bum is covered to keep the look put together and modest.

Casual Look

This is probably the most dressed down you will see me in leggings: I combine them with a cozy but nice sweatshirt and try to choose a pair of cute sneakers.

With my utilitarian hiking shoes, I added fun socks to make the look more purposeful. This sweatshirt I bought on vacation was $40 which I thought was pricey, but it has been one that I reach over and over!

Put Together Look

These two outfits are probably my favorite way to wear a pair of leggings. Add different layers and color to make an interesting look and be very comfortable while wearing them.

On cold days, when I want to wear a pair of pants that slip on, I pretend my leggings are pant/jeans. I thrifted the tunic recently and found the jacket on Poshmark a few years ago and I once again reached for my pink combat boots. I love that I can wear these when it is rainy and the pink is such a fun contrast with pretty much anything.

When I was planning some outfits, I realized I hadn’t worn this cardigan this year yet. Since it was cold, I layered it over a mustard sweater and carried the color in more layers. The scarf is an infinity scarf I bought in 2017: in style or not, I still wear it several times every winter. I didn’t wash my hair till that afternoon, so the beret was a necessity in the morning. Again I wore longer socks that pass the boots: I like the look if they peek a little higher on purpose.

Leggings Under a Dress

I used a picture from last year but I repeated this look for church: wear your leggings under a dress the same way you would wear tights. They may add as much warmth as your fleece tights and if the leggings are colorful, they can add a fun contrast to your outfit.

I hope these outfits gave you some ideas to wear your leggings in a put together outfit!

I wear leggings for several months through the winter but never on their own – too brrr! And on the coldest days I don’t wear pants or jeans at all as, again brrr, so for me it’s always leggings under a skirt or dress for winter wear.

Actually wearing leggings on their own isn’t seen much in the UK. There are women and girls who do wear leggings this way but it’s usually if they’re going to or leaving a gym as they’re definitely thought of as gym wear rather than out and about wear. And I hesitate to say this but you have to be really careful wearing leggings on their own, as you can look as though you’ve forgotten to put on a skirt!!!

The navy leggings under that lovely brown/tan dress with the boots look really good.

Yes! That is why I always try to have my bum covered! I typically wear them with sweatshirts only if I am home and/or exercising, and still try to have a longer sweatshirt on.

I am definitely sporting the casual look today as I head off to the gym and out for a hike. I still get used to leggings under a dress or skirt but I often think I don’t have the right kind as most of mine have lots of leg seams for the side pockets.. not that I have many dresses or skirts anyway!

I absolutely love wearing leggings! I love wearing them as athleisure, for working out, and I dress them up too! They’re so versatile!

Exactly! I actually only have two non workout pairs that are black, the others I feel are thinner so I use those of working out.

It hasn’t been that cold that often this year so I haven’t really worn them but once I think under a skirt/dress.

Thanks, Gemma! I like sharing some of my daily outfits because shopping our closet sometimes needs a little boost of inspiration.

Thanks for the tips! I don’t usually wear leggings outside of my house, but I can see myself doing so when I buy some new ones. And on that note, I do need some new ones! I love all the looks, especially the last two! I hope you enjoy your weekend!

Thanks, Jennifer! Same here unless I am exercising/hiking so the casual looks are usually weekends at home or hiking. But I do like them with longer things.

I absolutely love how the outfit with the cinnamon brown dress repeats the navy and brown colors in the underlayer top, leggings, and boots. And I always like outfits with the beautiful blue floral motif jacket.

I only wear mine under jeans when it’s too cold for cycling or walking without them. But I used to wear them all the time under skirts and dresses. Or for working out now.

I like wearing leggings because they are so much more comfortable than jeans but only in the house. I occasionally do go running out of the house with them on and now that I see how nice they look with your big sweaters I feel like maybe I can wear them in public. I’ll have to get some big, long sweaters first!

I admit to really liking leggings, but I do look for long length tops to pair with them. I enjoyed your photos, you looked good in leggings
