A Look into my Fall/Winter Closet Organization
As I was refolding my sweaters and setting out some outfits to wear in the coming week, I decided to take some quick pictures of my closet to show you how I organize my clothes. I am very grateful for the size of my closet: it is in a L shape with lots of space to hang clothes and has 2 sets of shelves separate from where you can hang clothes. Some of my clothes stay out year round while I rotate others. In fall and winter, my sandals are put away and my boots/sneakers are on display. In the same manner, sweaters and jeans and heavier pants are on the open shelves in the cold months while summer dresses, skirts, shorts and tanks and put away in tubs.
This is what you see when you come into my closet: sweatshirts stay year round as well as date night tops and bodysuits (bottom row). At the top are my graphic tees and short sleeve tops that hang year round too. Some earrings are hanging in the pouch holder and my Halftees and plain tanks are in the white little box. On that shelf, you can see two outfits set out that I was planning to wear.
Here is another view for the same area. Dividing the space are my medals and awards from running. On the top rack, my skirts are hanging, mostly my fall and winter ones but a couple of them will hang all year: the red tulle skirt can be worn year round as well as my denim skirt and a couple of the printed ones. Below are some cardigans, light sweaters and other tops: about half will stay there while some will be put away in spring.
This is where the majority of my seasonal shoes are displayed. Sneakers stay in sight year round. My pink combat boots, my black combat boots, my grey western boots and my leopard wedge sneakers have been worn the most this fall and winter season. My tall boots are not pictures in this post, but they are below the chunky sweaters.
On the same wall as the shoes are my belts and pendant necklaces. Having them in a prominent spot helps me wear them more.
Top shelf is where my purses belong: I have a lot fewer than I used to and I really wear mostly 3 or 4 of them. Black and white pants are at the top, followed by all of the rest of my denim and printed pants. Lastly are my chunky sweaters that i would rather not hang.
This is the last wall of clothes: on the far left are dresses, followed by jackets (denim, “leather” and other lighter jackets). Many of the dresses can be worn year round with layers so they are not put away unless they are a very summery print.
Below the jackets are 4 tubs for out of season clothes, a shelf with out of season shoes (right now sandals) and extra hangers. I am very grateful for my space as it allows me to stay organized. I regularly go through my clothes in an effort to not keep things I do not wear or are not my style anymore. I want to enter my closet and be excited to create an outfit and I usually am.
A bientôt!

That looks like a great system! I have a much harder time with fall and winter clothes since I have TONS of big/bulky sweaters and they take up so much room. I try not to hang any of them but do move all my sweatshirts and other tops to the hanging side of my closet. I realll probably need to toss a few sweaters but I just can’t bring myself to do that. I have been real good about not buying any more this winter though.

You do have a lot of room. I hate having to put away seasonal clothes so I hope my new closet is big enough for it all.
BTW, you should try alternating the front of the shoe with the back (one shoe of a pair points forward while the other points back) and you’ll gain a little room on each shelf.
Not did I miss it, or where are your hubby’s clothes?

It helps inspire me when I straigthen things out and move things around a little.

You are super organized! I would loved to have a walk-in closet, and yours looks customized just for you! The clear plastic boxes look like they would make the summer to winter change out easy. Thanks for sharing your great tips. Hope you enjoy the rest of your week!

I am also lucky I don’t have to share, my husband has a walk in closet too.

That looks very organized as well as it seems you’ve got plenty of space too. My closet is normal-sized (for me) but it’s mostly full of my University projects that are either hung and also on tubs (1 of my tubs is the size of 3 of yours, plus I also have two more “small” ones like yours). hahaha! I don’t have that many clothes either since I have a very small capsule wardrobe, but I do have it separated, some clothes are folded and the others and hung up, which helps a lot with how much frequency I wear them, for example, for the everyday, they’re folded and for the ones I wear on weekends or special occassions, on hangers, that’s kind of my system. 🙂
Have a lovely day!

Makes sense: that what you have to do in your closet: make it work for you. I think the main thing is to keep it from overflowing to where you can’t see what you have because otherwise you feel like you don’t have anything to wear when you actually do.

Thanks! I don’t run much anymore but about 2 a year: most of those are from my first year and a half of running.

It’s so nice when you can organize your closet, isn’t it? It also helps when you can see everything. I really like how you have that special area for your medals. Thanks for sharing!

I didn’t want to put the medals in the bedroom but I wanted to display them so the closet space worked out well.

I wish my closet space allowed me to do all of this!

It sure does: being able to see what you have is inspiring. And I love that my husband has his own closet.

What a beautiful closet! I love how you have it organized and it makes me want to go through mine! Congrats on all of your running medals, that is an awesome place to put them and the hanger you have for them is so pretty.
Hope you’re having a wonderful week! 🙂

My husband makes fun of my hanger but it works! Keeping the closet organized keeps me creative!

I am also grateful to have a good sized closet because it is HARD to stay organized in a small one (for me, anyway). Those short clear tubs stack nicely to hold your out of season clothes. It’s interesting to compare what people consider year-round items based on where they live etc.

I haven’t had a small closet in a lot of years. Before this house, I shared a walk in with my husband but I think I had less clothes.

It’s so nice you have so much space in your wardorbe! I think it makes it a lot easier to get dressed in the mornings when you can see everything laid out, and I love my wardrobe room for that reason, I know where everything is and it’s easy to put outfits or outfit ideas together! 🙂 YOu have such a wonderful collection of pieces too 🙂

Exactly! And I do love my clothes: at least 99% of them =)

I love seeing how other women organise their clothes. You have a fair bit of space. I also use storage boxes, which are under the bed, and rotate my clothes. My dream would be to have a walk- in closet but we’d need to move house. Thanks for linking

Me too: it gives me ideas and it’s just fun to see how they organize their clothes.

Thanks so much for stopping by!! I have been getting rid of all the clothes that are too big on me since I lost weight…I still am not buying any new clothes until I get down to my target weight but I do have enough to get me by…
