Vignettes around my House that Bring me Joy
I thought it would be interesting to see what the definition of a vignette is as we often use it as a term to describe a spot where you decorate maybe a tray or a small area in a aesthetically pleasing manner. I often think of it also as a snapshot of a pleasing area. The word vignette comes for the French word vigne which means vine. It used to be an architectural term used to describe a carved representation of a vine. It also is used as a “brief evocative description, account or episode”, and “a small illustration or portrait photograph which fades into its background without a definite border”. So today, I am sharing some snapshots from around the house that have been bringing me joy this past month.

First and foremost, is this cozy spot in my bedroom. The only new (to me) item is the lamp that I bought second hand, but otherwise, I re-homed the armchair, pillow and blanket from other spots in the house. Having a reading corner in my room had brought me joy and peace in the evening. The boys, I think are a little jealous and I am thinking of re-homing a couple chairs to their room when my parents move in (the game room will go in the guest bedroom with a couch).

A mustard pot (holding my budget highlighters) reminds me of our 2019 visit to France, it was a gift from my best friend. The triffle glass jar holds ornamental balls (it seems every year one disintegrates) and an old Valentine’s Day card. I do not buy Valentines decor, so I just reuse gifts and a few heart themed pieces I have had for years (less than the fingers on one hand!).

I found a couple red cups in my cupboard and replaced the Christmas ones in our little hot cocoa spot. The boys are still enjoying it and I think I will keep it out till Spring.

It had been years since we had made a puzzle, so it had been fun to work on this one from the Biltmore Estate. The boys have enjoyed adding a few pieces here and there. They want me to frame it when it’s done (we used to do that with all of ours), but I may just snap a picture of it before we donate it.

Since get dressed everyday, writing my blog and reading blogs bring me joy, it is no wonder that my closet is also a space that brings me joy. I created a little vignette at the top of my shelf (holding my jeans and pants) early fall and this spot does bring me joy. The turquoise book reminds me of my trips to Arizona, the jar reminds me of France and friendship, and the little sign makes me laugh. Using the area between that shelf and the wire shelf for hanging daily outfits has made use of that small area in a practical, but pleasing manner.
Do you have little areas or spots in your house that bring a smile to your face? I try to keep our house’s clutter to a minimum by regularly taking time to organize and evaluate what we have and how we display it.
A bientôt!

I love your puzzle! I have lots of little vignettes sprinkled around the house; mostly a combination of a framed photo, a candle, and some sort of flower/plant.

I love these places and how you’ve made them so you.
BTW, the place you hang your clothes worked out so well.

Thanks to your suggestion of adding a shelf in between there!

I think my whole house is just one vignette after another. I’m trying to create space in my bedroom for a nice cozy reading chair. But, we have this gigantic king size bed I wish we’d never bought! It takes up so much space! Love the trifle bowl used for balls. I use mine for blown glass balls my son buys me for Christmas.

I use my triffle bowl for Christmas balls too, but mine are cheap ones. I do enjoy all of these little spots. Makes a house cozy!

What a fun glimpse at current favorite spots about your house. I would like to do a similar post. There are places in my home that make smile. (And some that make me frown!!)
I really like the idea of cozying up in a chair to read in your bedroom. The only time I read is in bed. Should carve out a little time every day to snuggle up in my loft with my current book.
Your cocoa station is so cute. And you can change it around just switching mugs. I do have a little bit of Valentine’s Day decor sprinkled about in vignettes. It would be fun to do seasonal vignette posts!!

I’ll move the cocoa spot in the spring and maybe do something else fun there. Summer drinks? I am loving my reading nook! A great spot to decompress!

I saw this post when Erin @Cracker Crumb Life mentioned it. I’ve never heard the word vignette applied this way but it’s a fun trend! I feel some movement with my vignettes on the way…..Thanks for linking. Oh, and I once worked briefly for a tech company called Vignette!

I know, the evolution of words is interesting! I do enjoy seeing little spots in people’s home that give a home that peaceful feeling!
